Straight sites... do they convert for you?
http://www.collegefuckfest.com
is one of my alltime favorite porn sites. And I'm as gay as the earth is round.
But there's just some straight sites out there that appeal to me because of the guys in them, the way they're filmed, the way things are "set up", and so on. http://www.herfirstbigcock.com is another one, though I don't like it as much as CollegeFuckFest.
I figure I can't be the only gay guy who gets off on certain kinds of straight porn. Not to mention the fact that we know the "straight guys" niche is a popular one - sites like HardNStraight.com, SeanCody.com, and so on so on. So why couldn't a straight boy site sans the gay sex still do well with that demand?
Have any of you all tried out straight sites like this and seen it convert well with gay traffic?

Hey Brian!
Actually there was a time I tried doing this. It didn't really work for me.
I took a similar approach to the one you mentioned about the popularity of straight boys. That has been always been popular marketing idea.
Now mind, you I spent a lot of years marketing straight porn as well. Most people think of me as promoting gay only, but that's not true. I have promoted almost every straight and bi niche available.
That being said, while the main thrust I did in the gay markets with sites like those metioned didn't really work for me, marketing them into the bi markets did.
And let me clarify what it was that I did to test this...
The basis of the test was from 5 free sites linked to gay only directories; then built 5 similar sites and linked them to the same directories as the first 5 AND directories with both gay and straight (aka Richard's Realm, GreenGuy and the like) my thought was I'd catch the curious guys clicking into the gay sections.
I combined advertising with banners, fpas and text links (at a time when all of these work easily). I converted the gay sites I was promoting at 1:250 on the first 5 sites and 1:130 on the second set of sites. Almost all of the traffic went out to the gay site links. Out of the traffic the DID go out to the straight sites I sold 1 membership in six months.
I did take all ten sites and rework them as bi sites, at one time. I used the same advertising I used on the test. The approach worked better there. I literally had a 50/50 split on sales.
The times are very different with the type of surfer that is online and the type of traffic one can get to their sites. The lines are blurring more and more everyday. So would this work today? I'm not sure.
I did follow a similar line of reason that you are following. Perhaps it is time for a new test ;)
My best,
Gary-Alan
