Porn.com / Sex.com Etc, Etc...

With all of the big ticket domain names that have been sold lately, do you think we're going to see more of an impact in the way low cost domains are appraised when it comes to 'adult' related keywords?

porn.com just sold for over $9 million, sex.com sold for over $15 million (at last estimate) and there have also been several other domain aquisitions by adult sponsors too.

Where do you think the future in these big ticket adult domain names lay?

I would love to see a social networking type setup on sex.com instead of a banner farm, likewise with porn.com that could be used for so much more than just selling porn memberships.

So where do you see these big ticket domain names heading and where will that leave the rest of us with domains to sell?

I think the banners are up because they are creating a new site. Seems odd to pay millions for a site with banners. I think the price of good domains will continue to rise as they are valuable realestate on the digital landscape.

side note: when is that show that has the adult domain auctions? Missed it last year and want to put some domains on the list.

there will probably be one with the internext in florida ? or that would be my best guess..

I hope they are in the process of working on a new site for sex.com - find it hard to believe that you cant do something that makes more money than having it parked.. but perhaps i am mistaken..

I think they could be potential good investments, but are very long term, and since they are so expensive, only the larger companies are buying them.

Also, in terms of sex.com and porn.com, those work in multiple languages where they may be part of the language (sex) or slang (porn) - so its a wide appeal with grand branding potential!

With Sex.com - the company that purchased it is a domain investment type company I believe, and I think they've already gone through two or three different companies managing development and advertising. Whether they can't make up their mind, analyzed the market incorrectly, or are happy with the results, who knows... but the company doesn't appear to have experience in making money in the adult sector, other than banner ads and PPC
