Military niche temporarily not en vogue?

Well this could be the dumbest question you've heard in a long time, but.. I'll take my chances ;) Be aware that live in Europe, so this adds to the level of my incompetence when it comes to speculations like this.

Do you think that due to this whole mess with Iraq some, or even many gay guys in America are having a temporary aversion towards anything military, including my beloved soldiers? No matter how hot they might look? You know, this crisis has been in the news all the time for a pretty long time. Every time I turn on BBC World or CNN I see soldiers behaving badly, women soldiers abusing men.. it's a real mess when you come to think of it ;) So, when an average gay dude starts surfing for porn, he might now wish to see something that's totally different, like guys at the beach, or alpinists having sex, or eskimos having orgies... you catch my drift.

Until a few days ago I wouldn't even think in that way, but recently I made a military site (just a feeder site, very average design, average model, but not too bad either, similar to what I've used so far). It got only two signup attempts - an all time low!

Well given the recent happens in Iraq i would think, more than anything traffic will have risen for 'military' related search terms which in turn will mean more adult sites getting hits.

However that being said from what i can tell from our uniform site http://www.uniformmale.com we havent had a decrease or increase in signups but instead it has stayed pretty constant.

Could it be the traffic source you are feeding the military site with that is the issue?

i would think if anything, it could have a positive impact...

You have a point there Lee, regarding the number of search attempts for soldiers now. However, I reckon most of these searches aren't sexually motivated.

As for the traffic, I'm still relying on link lists only :(

My regular or feeder sites have about 10 days lifetime. Rarely some of the older sites do get a signup or two but that's exception.

I'm doing this biz as a side job, I can't do it all the time unfortunately. Therefore making my own link lists or TGPs is not an option. However, I will probably try free sites. Some say that search engines love them, and that way they can become a steady source of SE traffic. Then again, I read that in a thread that dealt with straight porn. Not sure if it holds true for gay porn.


Here's another question. Let's say I have several hardcore UGAS platinum sites. Every of those sites has at least one large set with more than 150 pics (and several other sets to make the required 300 number). What would be the best thing to do with these large sets that are already incorporated into platinum sites:

1) Use some of the softcore pics from them, and build preferred / regular sites. Then direct traffic from them to the platinum one.

2) Use some of the softcore pics and build free sites which would link to the corresponding platinum site.

3) Not use any of the pics from the platinum sites in any of the regular or free sites.

Also you say you dont have time to manage a link list or tgp.. how so? I presume you have a fair collection of feeder sites already made?

Why dont you just link them all together on a single page and then, every time you make a new feeder / free / AEN site add a link to that page as well as adding a recip to that page on the sites you build? Its a great way of getting additional traffic to where YOU want it to go ;)

Well yes, of course - I do link ALL of my sites to the main hub (the root domain), both from the unprotected (tour) and members areas. In a way, that is a sort of my main link list.

Now I need to invent some tactics to bring more traffic to the main hub, apart from the traffic that comes to it from my feeder sites. The main hub is getting very little SE traffic.

Some people recommend fake TGPs, toplists etc. I'm still not familiar with those terms, don't know what exactly they mean.
