MC says porn "illegal activity" ALL IN TROUBLE??

Hello.. Hope we're not breaking any rules or being rude or anything by starting another thread..... Maybe we should ask ourselves "what are we getting into here?" We would like to know your thoughts on the news I found out earlier today...

    http://www.avnonline.com/issues/2004...021204_7.shtml

This goes beyond another crack down per se... since Mastercard says "comply with "all MasterCard standards" and prevent using MasterCard for "any illegal activities" - including online gambling, porn, and prescription medications." it would appear that they are lumping all porn into illegal activity.

If Mastercard pulls an AMEX this could be disasterous... especially since Visa would essentially carry the CC monopoly for the adult Internet and know that many business people would be at their mercy. Thoughts anyone?
Also.. (pasted some copy from adult forum post that seems to concern a few people):
The Los Angeles Times Reports that Bush has appointed one of the leading opponents of the adult industry TO PROSECUTE ON LINE PORN!

    Summary of Article:

The Justice Department has quietly installed an outspoken anti-pornography advocate in a senior position in its criminal division, as part of an effort to jump-start obscenity prosecutions.

(The new prosecutor) has been the president and chief counsel of a group active in writing federal legislation outlawing indecent material on the Internet

The Bush administration's election-year move follows three years of heat from the Christian right.

The appointment of a tough new cop on the porn beat and other recent moves by the department to bolster obscenity cases are leaving representatives of the adult-entertainment industry to wonder whether they have become a political football.

I can see the possibility of online casinos being seen as illegal, but internet porn?? Sounds like MC is just having some heat brought on them by higher powers

You do realize by 'gay' I mean a man who has sex with other men?

Whilst i think companies like MC and Visa truely dont have a clue about how the online adult industry operate i can also honestly see why they would use the word illegal in the same sentence as 'porn' i mean afterall, with the state of many webmasters at the moment, someone else pointed out in another thread about the age of model thing for one, there are so many bad aspects of the porn industry at the moment its not surprising we all get tarred witht he same brush.

Also,i think it is worth noting hat this coule potentially end up as another cluster fuck like with the current Visa situation which would leave us what as a payment solution? Hmmm...

    Regards,

    Lee
