Anyone had any luck selling Ebooks?

I'm considering starting some new sites selling gay Ebooks for Desktops, PDA's, Palm Pilots etc and just purchased some domains for such a venture.

Has anyone had any experience with this?

It seems like a good market to hit, since you don't have to ship any actual products, I'm just not sure how to go about getting gay publishers to let me sell their stuff online.

If anyone knows anything or has some experience, please let me know.

You do realize by 'gay' I mean a man who has sex with other men?

We had a little luck in the past however, as of late things have pretty much dried up for ebooks, at least for us.

As for publishers, you might want to PM GayStoryMan / Ian and see if there is anything he could do to help you get some ebooks to sell

    Regards,

I've never tried selling gay ebooks so don't really know about that aspect.

For over 5 years though I have sold just about every other type of ebook.

Some subjects seem to go in seasonal cycles.

I can tell you also that if you're going to sell an e-book that everyone else is promoting then you need to be one of the first ones to do so.

By far the best is to sell an ebook that you have written; set up a mini site for it, send ppc traffic to it and get affiliates to sell it for you.

I converted a book that my dad wrote into an ebook as it wasn't selling as a real book and was expensive to self-publish. It now sells like clock work with very little effort involved; asside from the initial push and set up.

Yep Dzinbear, shoot me an email and I'll send you over some info if you want... the two most popular formats are PDF by Adobe and LIT which is MS Reader...

eBooks are a great source of advertising as well. if you don't go nuts on it, but it can be great. They are also great pass on advertising and are food for the SE like Google.

http://www.ozemedia.com/ebooks.htm - compares the various ebook compilers out and about on the net

    http://www.ebookapprentice.com/ebooks/index.html

http://www.ebooksubmit.com/ -- ideas and tips on marketing ebooks

http://www.ebookjungle.com/ -- basically a portal for ebook links and info

http://www.bizzydays.com/ basically a site ad - but has some good information here and there and a handy dandy affiliate program

Queer Publishers - you'd have to go thru and figure out who offers ebooks as a publishing option, but this is a pretty thorough listing of the publishers out there that handle GLBT material.

Artemis Press definately does ebook publication.

Thanks everyone, great suggestions and links.

I do like the idea of writing my own EBook, as i do love writing and have lots of ideas, but of course that would take a lot of my already small amount of time.

I think for now I'm just going to sign up for some affiliate programs like Amazon and do some reviews of gay titles. I bought the domain gayereader.com so I think it will work well for that.

Gay Story Man, please PM me if you can, I'd love to include some reviews of your ebooks on the site!

    Cheers,
    Dan
