Thread: Who Are the Webmasters to Keep an Eye On???

Ken, I contribute to your posts and threads here and elsewhere mate, and quite often, but I have to say (as I have inferred elsewhere) that as a journalist you seem to lack some of the objectivity at times that is the hallmark of great journalism.
Disagree with you completely here mate. His article is an editorial, an 'opinion' piece. Editorials are meant to be subjective. How boring would it be to read an article that says 'I'm not going to tell you what I like because all porn sites are good.' I sure as hell wouldn't read it nor would anyone. Great writers are the ones that aren't afraid to share their opinions and stir up the shit...all the ones I like anyways.

Hey buddy, yeah, good call, and I agree maybe what I said wasn't quite accurate or fair.

I suppose the angle I was coming from was if he is researching an article don't ask for one thing without being specific and excluding others in the process.

Research should be taken in context - not out of it.

Honestly it was simply b/cuz I already had enough straight niche suggestions. And I didn't want write an article about gay webmasters to keep your eye on and have them all work in the straight niche. Don't you think that's a little odd? And a little off-balance, when there are so many other niches out there? If you've seen the thread on the TripleXGay board on this topic, you'll understand my personal frustration with this topic.

Ken, I contribute to your posts and threads here and elsewhere mate, and quite often, but I have to say (as I have inferred elsewhere) that as a journalist you seem to lack some of the objectivity at times that is the hallmark of great journalism.

I am not saying you mean it, I am just saying that the way you say things could be interpreted that way.
Well, thanx for pointing that out. And I sincerely mean that. It's not my intention to alientate anyone.

I can see how you might infer that I am not objective, but if you've ever actually read any of my coverage of straight niche sites in AVN Online magazine, you would know that, indeed, my personal opinion is one that I keep separate from my duties as a journalist. And I can almost ALWAYS find something to celebrate in everything that I am writing about.

But AS A JOURNALIST, I think the hallmark of great journalism is good writing AND a POINT OF VIEW. You have to have lived life--and thought about it and questioned it--in order to write about it accurately. Just like any other profession in the world, we are allowed to our own personal opinions, no matter how we must confront them in our professional lives.

Anyway, I thought it might be interesting to actually become involved in the community that I write about, rather than just write about it, but I'm starting to worry that perhaps the experiment might not be working out so well. There's often such distrust between the press and the ones who are written about, and I hoped to break that down and make people feel comfortable with the magazine and me by simply being myself and actually participating in the discussions, not only as someone who writes about adult entertainment, but as someone who creates it (I've been writing and publishing erotic fiction for years). But if I have to edit and censor myself in order to endear myself to you, then perhaps you'll just have to keep distrusting me and hope for the best when my story comes out, right?

All in good fun, buddy. All in good fun.

Thanx Danny. Appreciate the sentiment. In all actuality, however, the article is really more of an objective journliastic assignment. Again, as I mentioned earlier, it's not the story I set out to write in the beginning. But from this thread--and from the one on the TripleXGay board, I DO have the beginnings of a very good opinion piece for the magazine, so hopefully you will be reading that piece soon...

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ;-)

    Back to point...

Ken, thaks for your response and taking it in the spirit it was meant - all I am saying is that I am straight, I market gay, and that was my point, and you read the article I gave up about that, which AVN was to publish...

    THAT was my ONLY point.

Sure it helps, but you do NOT have to be gay to market gay.

Shit, if you did, imagine how well off I'd be be if I actually knew what I was talking about ?

Ahh, guess I was a bit off about it being an editorial piece then. However, I still think it is essential for the article you are writing to have a specific focus and perspective, which takes a certain degree of subjectivity for it to be interesting...as you have already said and know.

But if I have to edit and censor myself in order to endear myself to you, then perhaps you'll just have to keep distrusting me and hope for the best when my story comes out, right?
Please don't edit yourself, or leave the community...I think you are one of the most intelligent and positive people on here, plus as Xstr8guy pointed out your a hot dude too LOL. We all argue from time to time on here but at the end of the day I'd like to think we're like family and would share a beer and conversation toghether. Keep up the great work and I'm sure we all can't wait to read your article! :groovy:

P.S. Is it possible to have AVN Online shipped to Asia?

    Cheers,
    Dan
