well crystal is a gay issue. When you have 10% of population accounting for 50% of HIV and know that meth makes them do it bare even more, it is an issue.

if you read my post again, you'll see that i said it's not a RECENT problem. i've seen plenty of crystal use for over 30 years, since i first ran away to hollywood.

i know plenty of gay and non gay people who abuse this drug, and it does seem to suck any judgement right out of a person. i had 5 friends who sometimes invited me to meetings in weho, and i got to hear a lot about meth use and users. most of my friends and their friends slid back at least once, too. and sex with strangers or almost-strangers always seemed to come into those backslides.

The first time I encountered ecstasy was in 1999 and the mood in the clubs was pretty lovey-dovey. About a year later, a lot of the E started having meth in it and the scene started changing. The music was harder and the people were more aggressive. By 2003, we couldn't stand being at a dance bar or party.

Many of the decisions we make in life are ethical ones. Just because it's "business" doesn't excuse anyone from the consequences of their actions. It's one thing for a couple to bareback and it is quite another for you to MAKE MONEY from that decision. The question for everyone in this industry to ask themselves is "Do I want to be a part of the solution to the HIV/AIDS epidemic or not?" Making bareback porn does not help.

You do realize by 'gay' I mean a man who has sex with other men?

I know 5 models specifically that are friends of mine that used to do gay porn that are now infected with the HIV virus. However, none of them ever performed in bareback videos, nor did they receive HIV from any of the models that they were in scenes with. Is it possible to conclude that by just anyone being in porn, they become more marketable for hookups and sex in general. Go to a club and see a porn star there, suddenly wanting the usual drunken kid in the corner doesn't seem quite so appealing. Becoming more marketable makes you more at risk of plenty of controversial choices. Everyone assumes when a porn star becomes HIV infected, it's because of their extremely risky career. How many people sit back to think just how many of them got it off camera. Does doing porn change your sexual habits off camera as well? Where's the stat for that one?!?

If you really want to involve ethics in this, filming porn in general is putting these kids in a position that can lead to a variety of terrible future events. Of course, the average person can argue that from the producer's standpoint, how could we possibly be responsible for future choices they make?

This particular topic reminds me alot of a debate i constantly had with my old boss. She was a catholic, conservate republican and i was the agnostic, liberal democrat. No matter how much we fought back and forth, we were still in the same exact views as before. What makes you a bigger man at the end of the debate, is if you can look at it as an informative conversation and walk on. Making a personal attack towards someone because they run their company different than yours is hardly a solution.

I very much so enjoy watching bareback porn and performing it with my boyfriend. However, i have never filmed it. My reason, has nothing to do with ethics, starting a movement, or sending a message, but simply the fact that I don't want the responsiblity or "unstoppable guilt" that i would feel if something happened to one of my models.

That's the view of the young kid on the boards... later guys, play nice *wink*

I think your mindset is very narrow regarding HIV/AIDS to think 50% of the worlds HIV/AIDS cases is due to 10% of the population using meth.

If you're quoting the CDC statistics then you're wrong.

The CDC statistics state that 2.3% of the population is Gay.

So what you're really saying is 50% of the worlds HIV/AIDS cases are due to meth induced unprotected homosexual sex. YOUR WRONG

I've read the CDC statistics, but since you didn't give me the courtesy of a link, I'm not going to waste my time giving you one.

I'm sure you'll disagree that the majority of HIV/AIDS cases in the world are from heterosexual sex.. you see.. that's how women and children get HIV/AIDS

This trend of our community being scared into thinking we are responsible for HIV/AIDS and our people deserve it for reason A, B, C, D, is not accurate, nor good for our community. Viruses do not discriminate... get it through your head people!

If every Gay or Bisexual person was wiped off the face of this earth today HIV/AIDS would still exist... and continue to spread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Enlighten me. I don't remember 10% of the worlds population being responsible for 50% of HIV/AIDS cases. Especially since the majority of HIV/AIDS cases are heterosexual in nature.. and they are not 10% of the population.

    I totally agree.

Do you guys promote sites that have bareback sex on them? I'm not making a judgement call at all, just curious.

i've been thinking about this. i live by west hollywood, yet i know a lot more straight crystal abusers than gay. like i said, i went to meetings with friends, plus i had a friend into meth, and all the people she got high with or bought from were straight. and my ex mother in law used to know tons of meth people - only a couple were gay. and i mean she know a LOT.

i don't believe crystal is mainly a gay issue, although it certainly is a very used drug.

You're right, crystal is not a Gay issue.

    Pot isn't a Gay issue.

    Coccaine wasn't a Gay issue in the 70's, 80's & 90's.

It's important for people in our community to remember that just because our community is proactive in tackling drug use and STD issues, it doesn't mean they are our problem, it means we're more pro active in combating these issues then the straight community generally is.

If every GLBT person was wiped off the face of the planet this second there would still be drug addicts, people using E, crystal, pot, etc. People will continue to die of HIV/AIDS, and continue to get the disease, along with other STD's.

I am so tired of religious aspects of the straight community blaming the Gay community for disease, perversion and addiction, it's absolutely pathetic and even worse, some of our own people start to beleive it!

I'm going back to the original topic of barebacking. So all barebacking is not created the same then. There's good barebacking and bad now ? No wonder there's so many mixed messages being given and received.

Huskyhunks, you do have a good point here, but please note that most of the hostility is going on between two people. Many GWW regulars have chimed in with thier own thoughts and were able to maintain a respectful tone.

Guys, I respect all of your opinions, and the day we all agree with each other 100% will be a sad day. We are human beings, not Borg. People are allowed to have disagreements and different opinions, but please keep the name calling out of it. Even if you do not agree with someone and their opinion upsets you, simply stating that you do not agree and even stating that you have been upset by the opinion is fine. Attacking the other person becasue of their views is not acceptable behaviour.

Okay, I was not going to chime in on this one but since I'm here I will. This is only my experience and impression. I was watching the movie Jeffrey the other day and I was struck with a thought. In the early 90's, the time when I was coming out, people had gotten over the shock of HIV and AIDS and were starting to accept it as a terrible fact of life. The drugs were just starting to be developed that were enabling people with HIV to live longer and not exhibit many of the symptoms that people had to deal with in the 80's. The problem was that people with HIV were being treated like the plague. Misinformation and a lack of education had people believing that HIV could be spread by such things as touch, a toilet seat, a kiss, a sneeze, etc. People with HIV have just as much right to hook up, fall in love and have sex as negative people do so we needed education.

Somewhere along the way a movement was started to sexualize the HIV positive man. Rather than HIV becoming an accepted way of life, it started to become glamerous. I saw a porn star do a one man show in Hollywood about how liberating it was to become positive, and how he would no longer have to be afraid of sex, he could fuck as many people as he wanted and not have to worry anymore. He stood up on a pedestal, dropped his robe to reveal a magnificient body, and proudly proclaimed, "I am an HIV positive man". And everyone was being so politically correct that nobody wanted to take away the Poz guys' right to be and feel sexy. The problem was, nobody was saying, "I'm alive, healthy and sexy, but believe me... you don't want this." The bug chasers feel they are part of an exclusive club. They feel that by getting the "gift" they can engage in the hedonistic lifestyle that was rampant in the 70's. Nobody is thinking about the future.

When I was 20 I never thought I would make it to 30 and didn't plan for anything. Now at 36 I'm struggling to make things better for myself now and for when I'm older. I'm glad I was closeted in my youth because I probably would have done some really harmful things. I'm not saying not to bareback and I'm not saying bareback content should not be shown online or in movies. I'm just saying to keep in mind that there are a lot of people who admire porn stars and people who use adult movies as guidelines on how to have sex.

Being involved in the leather scene, I see tons of guys who teach themselves BDSM by watching porn videos. Most people who produce Leather videos throw a bunch of models into chaps and harnesses and have them fuck. Some snort poppers, halfheartedly throw a flogger and maybe put restraints on the bottom before they fuck him. No mention of safe play is ever made, scene negotiations aren't sexy so they are never part of the movies, and rarely does the movie feature an ad for a website where safe BDSM practices can be learned. What happens? People get hurt. And sometimes, although rarely, people die. Should everyone stop doing BDSM? No. Should they stop making videos? No. Should there be education to keep people from causing damage and death? Yes. Barebacking is a decision for each person to make for themselves, but there should be education along with the fantasy so people don't take the fantasy with them into thier reality and cause themselves or others harm.

Again, these are my opinions and mine only. Please respect them the way I respect the fact that yours may be different. Thank you.
