I don't know, Bel Ami and Falcon haven't seemed to have gotten stale, neither has Titan, and they're all pretty much sticking to their formula.

Oh I didn't say stale. But isn't variety the spice of life. It's nice when a studio changes around their models base once in a while is what I meant. I mean come on you wouldn't want to put in a DVD and sit there and just say, ok seen it before. Anyway you look at it, Youth Does Sell, and you have to supply the buyers market.

Back to HDK thread -- I was kind of surprised to find out that they were branching out to other types of models. LOL maybe surprised is a little strong. Maybe the type of model they originally based their work on is becomming extinct? I don't know.

Well when I go on gay.com they all come out of their caves and try to maul me? I can only speak to what I experience. I think it might be like overweight people saying they hate skinny/in shape guys, just to make their options sound by choice not necessity. Well I have also been wondering what's been going on at HDK as well. But it's been different. I'm not talking about the imports from the Czech Republic. I was in Houston about two months ago at a location where I had the opportunity to see World's Hungriest Cumhole Contest, which I had not really laid eyes on in some time. Pretty good, and then I recalled thier other titles like Barebacking Boys, Boy's Club, or the unforgettable Chocolate, Cream and the Fucking Machine.
My probelm is that the movies I have received lately from them are movies like the dreaded Sex Party Guys DVDs which I have found very difficult to appreciate. In other words, I rather liked their original California produced movies, and I do think there is plenty of room for recreating such spirit in future titles.
Thumbs up on the movie. Thumbs down on the name.
But then the movie is about sex in cars.... something you haven't seen since David Cronenberg's riveting movie Crash with James Spader !

I think that it's possible that HDK has started shifting to shooting out of California and the USA because of the issue they have been going through concernng the tax status treatment of models they were using in California. A decision made against them made it very clear that models could not be 1099'd as contractors, but had to be treated as employees, and thus, all the associated paperwork, taxation, and additional contractural obligations it placed on HDK made it more attractive to outsource to other states, and countries.
There we go -- now that's probably bang on the money. Soon as you have to treat ppl as regular employees that starts getting; well expensive, tedious, onerous, beurocratic, etc...

Im pretty sure Bill mentioned in a thread a couple of weeks ago that they were planning on doing a lot more out of state shooting for that very reason.
I cant say that i blame him either, id rather have independant contractors working for me than full time 'employees'.

There's only so much "bear" out there that's available. I never thought of HDK as having bears in their videos. They have hairy guys, but they don't look like the bears I know. The bears I know look like the guys on Bearfilms. It's the only true bear site that I know of. Those are the bears that you would find at the beer busts at 6 pm on Sundays across the US and abroad. The ones with beards, and guts, and that pride in their faces that say "I'm a bear". I just don't see that with the HDK models.
That being said, bears usually only deal with people in the "community". Maybe that's because alot of webmasters use words like "fat" "old" "ugly" and shit like that to describe them. Why would any self respecting bear or cub want to put themselves out there like that ?
My guess with HDK is that there's just not alot of bears out there wanting to participate. If the younger guys are wanting to participate, it's only natural to go that route.

i like marketing "rough men". in 1997, that was the first gay niche we worked and it was magic. guys can see pretty boys, professional models and 18 year old twinks all over the web - and on street corners, in colleges, etc. give me a niche that is hard to find and easy to define any day.
tombarr - i bet you got it. it's just too much hassle to deal with that much paperwork every time you do a shoot.
If they want to expand into the Euro market, go for it, but at the very least create a new site so it's easier to sell. If you send Euro boy traffic to HDK, they'll see rough, hairy men and leave; if you send rough, hairy man traffic they'll see boys and freak.
