    "A United States citizen who is married can sponsor his or her non-American spouse for immigration into this country. Those with Civil Unions have no such privilege."

    There has been a bill going around for a few years now. They can't seem to get the wording right, or at the time they can't get support for it. It's now called the Uniting American Families Act, or now called the permanent partnership act. If passed, ya right, it would let Binational couples to bring in there loved ones just like the straights can do. Also it seems like for straight people, there is a waver that would let married or going to be married people with hiv into this country.

    It is too bad that this country in lots of ways now has become a third world nation. Human rights, your personal freedom is slowly going away, the government isn't trusted over seas. Your phone calls might be listened in on; if you transfer money overseas it's tracked. You basically now need a passport to get back into this country. The US state Department and US Embassy's go by you are guilty to proven innocent. I herd that myself from a vic council general in KL, and the lady who runs the visa department at the state department in DC.

    I blame it all on the jerks running this country, or should I say the church running this country!

    I certainly see what the issue is here, and I'm not disagreeing with the importance of gays and lesbians being treated with the same respect as all other citizens.

    But, as I said, we have to take it step by step. Consider the history of a woman's right to vote, let alone a woman's right to choose, and also factor in how long it took to get African Americans recognized as equal citizens.

    We can sit around and scream and holler about this as much as we want, but it's not going to change the fact that America is the country that it is, and if we want change, we have to be patient and we have to take it one step at a time. And rather than everyone sitting around complaining about it, why not try getting involved and helping to bring about this change?

    Get involved.

    Well Im ready to handcuff myself to the INS office building in lower NYC, just the way act up did when no one was doing anything about aids way back when.
    All the changes came in the us history with people taking serious action!

    Well, all my kvetching about Civil Unions was based on the idea that they carried the same rights as Marriage. If we can't have the same rights with civil unions then fuck it, I want the whole kit and kaboodle. Marriage or nothing!

    Why are you all so riled up over such a silly issue?

    It's quite clear that there will be no gay marriage in the United States for years to come.

    The solution is simple. If you want to get married, stop yer bitching, and MOVE TO CANADA where gay marriage is the law of the land!

    It's not as easy as you think. First you have to get to Canada, and then after you are married where do you live? The Canadians have there rules, and its finding work. In my case Eric can't live in the US. I can only stay so long in Malaysia before I would have to leave, like any other country. If it was that easy 70,000 plus Americans in Binational relations would be doing it now.
    The gay marriage is not only for US citizens, but for all Americans that are in a loving relationship with none Americans.

    Mr. President:

    I would like to know why my president hates me so much. I would like to know why the President of the best country in the world hates a group of its own people. What have gay and lesbian people ever done to you? I was brought up believing that man isn't going to judge you when you got to heaven but GOD himself. I was also brought up believing in The Declaration of Independance. "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." With your middle age stand on gay rights you aren't upholding the Declaration of Independence!

    I'd also love to know why this country is being able to be governed by the bible. I was taught that this country was formed to separate government from the church. Not the other way around. What happened?

    If you really believed in helping all Americans you would at least pass a civil union's bill, and also the Uniting Families act. You will never know how many thousands and thousands of good tax paying American you will help out.

    I used to campaign for Gay rights in the uk, ive witten to the top dogs many times. I threw them away now, but i used to have a huge draw full of letters from "the prime minister" saying "your comments have been carefully noted".

    It does nothing im afraid, they dont even get to read your comments. Great that youve done it, more people should, but youd be better trying to push that fax to the media and get on phone in shows. You may persuade members of the public who do make a difference at the ballot box every time you vote for a new government. Politicians listen to voter on mass, one gay person means shit to them.

    Your first problem is labeling everyone who has a problem with gay marraige as "religious right." For example, New Jersey's Senators Frank Lautenberg and Robert Menendez voted for the Defense of Marraige Act... and they are by no means "religious right."

    And I think it would be a mischaracterization to say that the "religious right" runs the state of New Jersey.

    If you want to do something productive, I would suggest pursuading reasonable people why this issue is so important to us. There is still quite a ways to go on many different fronts.

    And you need to recognize that the United States is simply so much larger in every respect to most other countries. The entire population of Canada can fit into California with room to spare.... and there is still 49 more states after that. It's just easier to pass a bill legalizing gay marraige in a smaller demographic, especially when its a country where the Senate does not participate in the legislative process.

    I see you faxed Hillary Clinton that letter, whose official position is that she opposes gay marraige but supports civil unions. Have you considered contacting the Human Rights Campaign? They shake down gays and lesbians for millions of dollars every year, and have done very little on specifically advocating gay marraige (preferring the Hillary Clinton style approach). How do you expect to change Hillary's mind when you have the "leading, richest organization for GLBT civil rights" against you?

    You could attend one of their $150 champagne rights dinners, maybe then you would feel better.
