Free Site Poll

I'm doing a bit more research about free sites. I have never built one, so I'm wondering about what kind of sales one might expect from a free site. I know that people are sensitive about sharing this kind of information, so I thought that perhaps a poll where the results aren't tracked to a user might be a good way to approach this.

So, I'm only interested in the sales that you receive in the initial blast, i.e. you put up a free site, it gets listed and the traffic tumbles in for a couple of days. I'm not interested in the long-term sales because I realize that free sites are the gift that keeps giving.

FYI, since leaving Mancheck I've been trying all kinds of new things, most of which I know nothing about, like TGPs. And I started The Pig about this time last year, but because of working full-time I never really had the time to kick it into full gear. So it's been a summer of learning all kinds of new things.

Now, if I could just figure out how to sell a UGAS and Rainbow Passport membership, I'd be all set.

UGAS - dont bother. Oversold and over saturated imo. Daves a cool guy, but the reviewers are tosser in my view. Dave even brought me a pro design as a preferred site to get me "into his brand". Worked for less than 3 months, then his reviewers started being cocks again.

Sell Mancheck! I put up some feeder sites, not promoted them at all, now im getting checks of about $50 - $100 a period from them. Im going to push some traffic and see how we do (yes i was leaching, guilty as charged ). GMP does well too. No idea why but traffic i send to GMP versions of the same site will convert better. Odd huh.

You know one thing that is giving me some small results is pic posts, like xtube. Nothing major but i dont do too much. I work full time and get 2-3 hours each night to work, but im sure with more time it could do well.

I tried setting up my own surfer board to post pics, that made sales. The problem was that i couldnt get surfers to post, they just vewed. Then i had a server move and deleted the folder without backing it up (doh!).

Well I know that UGAS doesn't sell well, I figure if I can sell Mancheck memberships by the bucket load I should be able to sell a few UGAS, but no luck. However, UGAS is great for upsells to your FPA sponsor. So I while I don't sell many UGAS mems, I do sell a lot of other stuff to their traffic, so it's worth making the galleries.

I keep hearing about Sex Key, but I hate programs that don't rebill.

GMP is a real old school company that I love, they have never changed the basic model of the site like all the AVS company’s they just did not try to rip people off, fuck with your traffic, fill their site with upsells, hire to many EMP’S, come up with endless Rules “to improve traffic, viewer appreciation LOL” Hell their site is the same to this day as it was 5 years ago and still works, because of its submitters, and the hands off approach the owner takes. This site still gives some of us hope, but that hope is dwindling now.

GMP have allways looked at things differently imo, they work with you not against you, and thats why its a great avs.

These poll results are exactly what i would have expected to see, thats good, it means that people arent lying.

If everyone was making 3+ sales per free site i would have been very weary of the results.

The simple fact of the matter is as more and more webmasters join the industry, more and more free sites get submitted so the quality of those sites in terms of signups depreciates.

Id say you have a really good base on which to judge your wanting to build free sites in this poll

I agree about the number of freesites being submitted. By and large the quality of a huge % of freesites simply sucks. The index page is turned into a banner farm for LLs. The 'Enter' link is hard to discern. The contextual presell quite often leaves much to be desired. The freesite content (pics/vids) don't match the tour closely enough which is an immediate disappointment when the prospect clicks thru. etc, etc,etc

So 1 or 2 sales doesn't surprise me. Maybe I just look at the wrong freesites as examples. I dunno? I build all mine for the long-term. To produce long after they have been purged from a LL database or disappear into archive hell.

All said in my humble opinion of course. Results may vary.

There are several LLs where it takes a month to be reviewed Michael. Some are nearly immediate, some are 7-10 days. That's why I said 4-6 wks, that pretty much covers them all.

My information may not be worth a crap, but as I mentioned before, I'll gladly share it.

Oh and one other thing ().

The results of this poll im going to suggest, are based on 'paysite' memberships not alternate types of sponsors, which in some cases can make more from a free site than a PPS or revshare paysite membership will.

If you do decide to start building free sites, what i would suggest is that you try your hand at utilizing different types of sponsors, revshare, per signup, email signup, free signup, downloads, dvd, penile fitness, after a month or two you should see which of the different types your building style is catered towards in terms of surfer joins and profit margins

You're missing an 0-1 option there. Seriously, with some FS that first surge of traffic brings clicks but no sales. Something you might want to take into account

Totally agree here, actually with Lee's post aswell, about the type of 'things' you will sell.

I have found that free sites are a great way to get traffic to a new hub for instance, then if the hub is strong enough you will then see the bookmarks, and then the 'sales' over the next week - 2 weeks with Friday & Saturady nights being the strongest.

Its a slightly longer process but ultimately means you don't have to 'find' that traffic the next time....its already on your real estate.

Also does anyone else find that there are better days than others to give your free sites etc to link lists.

Here's another tip with AVS companies....many of them approve sites when 'that guy' comes in, in the morning. If you submitted your sites at 5pm, you stand a good chance of being his first authorization of the day....BAD!! because you will be added to the 'new sites' list first..... thus by the time he is approving the last 20 sites that were submitted...the ones that will be at the top of their list for the day...you are now pushed maybe to page two.

Just a thought...it helps me...I hope it helps you too.
