    Dads aren't immortal forever

Well, merry christmas for me. After his yearly health check at work his doctors told him his PSA was getting higher so they are checking him for early signs of prostate cancer. Yay me.

I may be too old to still believe this but in my mind dad is still the strong invinsible guy who could kick ass at the drop of a hat for me. But he's nearly 50 now so I'm trying to come to terms with my dad's health issues and future health issues.

    :crybaby: :kickcan:

For Dad’s 50 not all that old, its good is sounds like the caught it early even if it turns out to be prostate cancer. Prostate cancer is very deadly in males especially, but normal very treatable if the catch it early. Its just that most guys are not to into a prostate exam so normal it progresses pretty far before the even catch it.

I truly hope everything will be ok with him, but does sound like the has regular check ups, and his Doc is on top of it, so more than likely even if it turns out to be prostate cancer he will be fine.

    Good God, I'm nearly 50.

OK, I'm a 38 year old Drama queen.

Can some Doctor come stick his finger up my ass please?

(Sana... My Dad was also called in for the same thing.. he's 67... but it was a false alarm and I hope it is in this case, too. Good luck. We're all pulling for you)

yeah. Weird to think that you might kick off because you found the exam distasteful

Good luck to you and your Dad, i hope it is a false alarm. Cancer is so much more treatable than ever before. Im sure if they caught it early it will be fine. My thoughts are with you both though.

Jasun, I can always count on you to make me smile.

Dad's not in the best moods. He had to have the sonagram which is a happy enima and then a little discovery special up his ass. Needless to say he says he's glad he's not gay.

On Wed. he gets the needle for the biopsy. Which involves a local anestetic in a very painful place, then lots of little snips on the prostrate to get samples. I'm on route to take him home afterwards. My poor dad.

    Hi Sana Chan;
Do try not to worry too much at this point. Before I became lead porn peddler for Badpuppy I was in Radiation Oncology for 8 years and I can tell you that although it is possible that the elevation of his PSA may mean enlargement of the prostate, i.e. possible early stages of Prostate Cancer, there are so many other reasons why his PSA may be elevated.

This may be helpful for you to read,

Here is some more information from the National Cancer Institute (NCI) that you may find helpful.

Keep us posted Sana Chan and we'll be thinking of you, your Dad and your family! Do try though to not jump to conclusions until such time it is deemed necessary.

Wishing you and your family Good Health in 2007 and beyond!

my dad's barely 48 but try telling him to go to the doctor ...

Stay strong and think positive, hopefully it's a false alarm and if not there are a plethora of treatments that have come out in the last couple of years, just make sure you get a 2nd opinion on things just in case

    Well here's the update.

Dad doesn't have cancer. At least not yet. They've found a pre-cancerous lesion on his prostate but so far its not cancer. So every few months he'll get a biopsy and make sure its not spreading anywhere. So here's hoping it stays where its suppose to be.

Hell, my dad had a stroke and a quadruple bypass 7 years ago. Trust me; I know what it's like to see your parents get old. It's WEIRD!

Best of wishes on your father's health.

Here's part of the letter my dad sent out to our family telling of his results. He has 3 younger brothers and one brother in law so he felt the need to pass on the brotherly wisdom he's gained the past few weeks.

"To my brothers, this is what you have to look forward to:

You posterior gets turned into an old fashioned Atari console, complete with
joystick out your kiester and B&W monitor for the doctor to play Asteroids on.
After a little pain killer has been applied, you get stuck 12 times. A real
    blast."

Sorry to read about the scare, but I am truly happy to hear about the early detection.

My father (80+) has been dealing with prostate (and a few others) cancer for sometime now, and I must say it sucks!

I wish the best for your Pa.

Sana Chan, I'm glad things are going okay. A major ordeal has just become a major inconvenience for your dad, and given the choice I'm sure we would all choose the latter.

And let your dad know that even the most experienced gay bottom would not enjoy a prostate biopsy any more than he has. The exam, maybe. The biopsy, no. LOL!
