My newest painting...

It's been nearly 2 years since I posted my artwork on here for everyone to see. I have not really painted anything in that time. This latest piece was painted specifically for a guy I was dating. I spent 2 weeks on my knees painting it, so much that I wore holes in my pants and got my knees scabbed & bloody from doing it. One day I stayed up for 24 hours to get the color and shadowing right.

It should be noted that three days after I gave him the painting, he dumped me.

(we are actually meeting again today and talking about a lot of shit... but that is neither here nor there)


So here it is... "The Consequence of Dancing"

Hi Rocky,

Firstly I have to say I love that painting. I actually spent the last 12hrs or so thinking what it meant to me...there were several interpretations that came to mind when I thought of why you would have painted it, but without knowing you, they all seemed way to personal for me to post.

My interpretation is far from the one that I think was your inspiration, however.......

It reminds me of something I read in a book, I think it was "Job: a comedy of justice" where they said "The devil reads the bible... looking for loopholes".

I have asked the guy who broke my heart for the painting back. After he returns it, I plan to burn it. Better to have it destroyed than to have it looked upon and remembered with remorse.

So before it is lost to the ages, allow me my interpretation.

(Armpit lover, Bec, DonMike... all of your interpretations are correct. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and no interpretation of this painting is wrong. You see what your heart and mind choose to see. True artwork means something to everyone and nothing to anyone.)

My interpretation:

If you look carefully, you will see that the devil is casting a shadow on the angel, but the angel casts no shadow. Not even his wings, as volumnous as they are, cast a shadow upon his body or his partner. He is leading in the dance, his wings outspread, his body open, embracing that which we percieve to be evil.

The devil follows the lead, unaware that he is casting shadow over the innocence of the angel. Both are in love, neither aware of the damge (emotional? physical, as referenced by the shadow of evil overpowering the good?) that is being inflicted. Perhaps they are aware, perhaps not. If so, they do not care, because love is blind and weakens the senses (notice no eyes, mouths or ears).

They dance ina time that is neither morning, noon or night. Although the sky is dark behind them, the coulds are white around them. Their love is timeless, endless, harmful and romantic. They are yin and yang.

Perfect balance in love, life, body and mind.

That's how I felt when I painted it, but it is not necessarily what the painting means to everyone. It is just what it means to me.

And just my 2 cents...that painting should not be burnt.

If you truly wish not to have others cast their eyes on it anymore and enjoy it the way we have....set it free on the ocean and let the lost souls of the sea gain inspiration to reach the heavens....it truly is an awesome piece.
