I agree with your last post. Nobody is black and white and rep vs dem is getting old as dems being in office really haven't done what the majority wants them to, in the way they want them to, with the speed they want them to. I do have to give kudos to Pelosi for her recent trips. Yes it's been grandstanding etc, but it gives hope to other countries that we can retain some decorum in the future.

But Steve you have to admit that our current president created a polarized nation with his rhetoric, refusal to acknowledge public opinion, and, amongst many others, statements like "if you're not with us your against us". If it was a democrat I'd have the same opinion.

Good leaders unite their people and empower them. Are good leaders for amending the constitution to take away peoples rights?

I completely disagree - I think that on the woman's side, by consenting to engage in sex with him, knowing the possible risks involved (pregnancy etc) that she enters into some sort of social contract that makes them equally responsible for what comes out of it. (both for decision making and financially)

Think about it this way, if she chose to keep it - she can hold him responsible to pay for it. So why can't he hold her into keeping it on the same grounds? They both new the possibilities and they still "entered into the contract" all the same.

Before I vote on a bill I actually read the Republican and Democrats booklets. It doesn't make me a better person just more informed maybe,

I question who made the sign and what the motives were. Anyone in his right mind who seriously wants to debate public policy frames his positions in a way that makes them sound appealing, good and right. If it were a "serious" sign, it would normally say something link "protect all unborn children; vote republican".

Or may I reframe the two sides as anti-choice vs. anti-life; pick your side of the issue!

The sad fact is, people are stupid. Dumb women are getting pregnant every second to just have an abortion later to get rid of it. Innocent women are getting raped every second, should they be forced to have a baby that will only remind them of that trama for the rest of their life? There is no right or wrong answer to this problem because it should be a case by case basis, not one over-ruling policy to govern every scenario. By forcing a white trash couple to have their baby only to raise it into poverty and warp the child beyond belief to only repeat the cycle once he hits puberty? is that really what we want either?

It's one of those debatable topics that has no solution, no persuasion, no closure. There are two sides of the fence, at the end of the debate, there are still two sides and everyone is perfectly comfortable on their side. There's nothing anyone can say to sway their decision one way or the other, same with politics, same with religion. I will never voice an opinion on abortion because like others, I will never be involved in one. Who am I to force a woman to do anything with her body, let alone something as life changing as "have a baby or not". This should be a decision for them, the victims and people who fall into this category, not beaurecrats with their own agendas and PR campaigns.

Regardless, i did find the sign amusing :p

One of my close friends of 20+ years is a "rape baby"

He is an Awesome guy who has his life together, is in medical school and everyone falls in love with him and his personality. But... his childhood wasn't the best. His mother didn't "love" him as a normal child and it took her quite a long time to overcome the idea of him being a product of one of the most traumatic situations in her life.

Today, they are close and she loves him to death. However, the situation being - and he will tell you "I'm not a product of love"

As the only woman I see responding to this post, I am in total agreement with Ethan. It would be my choice and my choice period and I would never allow the government to make that decision for me. It's not to say I would not allow the father to participate in that decision.

I'm also not saying that I would run out and have an abortion either. I simply want to retain the right to make a final decision that will directly effect my body, my health, my life and the life I may or may not be able to provide for that child, as well as the circumstances that I became pregnant in the first place.

That's my thoughts on the matter!
