The results of a Nassau County crackdown on the sale of adult materials to minors were announced today. The operation was carried out by Nassau County’s Office of Consumer Affairs and the Nassau County Police Department’s 5th Precinct, and resulted in multiple arrests and fines.

Over a dozen county stores were targeted for displaying pornographic magazines and movies too prominently, or for selling them to minors. Both offenses are in violation of local law.

“There will be zero tolerance for convenience stores that sell so-called ‘adult material’ to the children of Nassau County,” Consumer Affairs Commissioner Roger Bogsted said in a statement. “This is a very important issue, and we will not allow unscrupulous store owners to place our kids in jeopardy. In one case, a sales clerk sold a pornographic magazine to a young boy even after he told the clerk that he was only 15.”

Three individuals were arrested for selling adult material to a minor, one was arrested for selling alcohol to two minors, and three received summonses for Unconscionable Trade Practices, resulting in fines totaling $3500. Summonses were also issued to 11 stores for the Improper Display of Adult Material, resulting in fines totaling $5500. FULL STORY
