    Google question

    I admit I am a bit confused.

I am led to understand that if I start an important new site with a new domain name, I will be in the "sandbox" for six months with Google.

What about 555.olddomain.com? I sense that Google sees it as a seperate site but would it also be sandboxed?

Contest Shatters Google Sandbox Myth might help some. I have read some articles that says it does exist and some say it does.

I don't think it does personally. I did one site, put a link to it from an older site and uploaded an XML sitemap. Google had spidered it and it was coming up in that search engine.

Regged a domain, put up 250 pages, XML sitemapped and added it via google tools and its in the index (9 pages) after about a week.

Then it will vanish for a few weeks and woosh - 250 paged in the index

The key here is that 'new sites' are sandboxed or held off the main index, assuming NO INCOMING LINKS. Try adding a new site, without any incoming links to see how quickly it becomes listed, indexed, and cached, and stays in the index... that is the true test.

To insure a site is indexed, is dependent on lots of variables. One day you can have 300 pages indexed, and in an hour have 10 showing. The SERPS change constantly, and depending on which datacenter you are viewing the results from, that too can change almost in the blink of an eye.

Then there is also the supplemental index worry.

Factor in then the algo changes that seem to occur more often and confusion is a normal state of affairs when trying to work out your listings. SEO is not a science alone, but an art that is not easy to master, if at all.

As to the sandbox. There are lots of pros and cons, but bottom line is that it is always changing and can depend on penalties that exist, and where the links incoming are actually from, which includes relationship to the site being linked to.

Thank you for a lot of info... I won't say it was not causing more cunfusion.

I will start a new domain and ask for links and wait to escape the sandbox. Would anyone be interested in time it takes?

My newest domain uses PHP and Google indexed pages even before the site was publicly launched or had any incoming links (that I am aware of). After launch, I got incoming links and got page rank for some pages at the very next Google reranking.

Let's see how fast your new domain gets a page with PR after you get your first incoming link.
