Oh my garsh! I totally missed this thread. My apologies and thanks to all who have wished me a Happy Birthday.

We spent mine and my sister's birthday week in Cancun. We stayed in a beautiful 2 story condo that is bigger than our house. The weather was virtually flawless and we all got nice (un)healthy tans. It was nearly perfect except for a 3 things...

1) The day we arrived, my 80 year old/80 pound mother shattered her hip at home. We nearly took the next flight to Minnesota to be with her but our siblings convinced us to stay. Mom is doing very well now. She had immediate hip replacement and is now staying in a rehab facility. And she is in good spirits and responding well to the rehab. Did you know that they make you get up and walk the day after hip replacement?! Crazy!

2) Then my partner and sister contracted e-coli poisoning on the last day. It is NO fun watching your partner groaning and rolling around the bathroom floor with severe stomach pain and there is nothing you can do to make them feel better. My partner has recovered quite quickly but my sister (who has the immune system disease Lupus) is still very ill.

3) And after all of that drama, my biggest gripe... where are the gay men in Cancun?! Lol. We did manage to go to Karumba, one of only 3 gay bars. But it didn't get busy until 2am. And of course, we had early morning plans nearly every day. So late nights where out of the question. And the gay beach... we did manage to meet the cutest little Mexican cub you've ever seen. But the 2 days we went, there was probably less than a dozen men on the gay beach... and of course... NO NUDITY! Lol. The locals, although very comfortable in Speedos, seem to be very uptight sexually. And there were virtually no gay tourists at all. Cancun is definitely not a good gay destination. Next stop... Puerto Vallarta or Acapulco! Grrrr... I've definitely developed a taste for the Spanish-blooded type mexicans... so sexy!

And again... thanks for the birthday wishes. It's nice to be 29... again.

Oh... and don't ever do an 'all-inclusive' vacation! What a horrible waste of money. Who wants to eat every meal and drink at the same place everyday? Not me!
