The sensation in recent years in both terms of growth and usablility that is MySpace is a marketers wet dream, not just in terms of traffic but in terms of its viral marketing potential too. With this in mind, how can adult webmasters successfully use MySpace as a marketing vehicle for their own gains whilst also being responsible in ensuring that minors dont have access to material that could very well be deemed unsuitable for them?

Marketing On MySpace - Where To Start?

Well first and foremost, you are going to need a MySpace profile and begin customizing your profile to your particular business.

The first thing you need to do is create an image that will be used for your defulat picture on your MySpace profile page, something clear and concise that relates to your business (maybe your logo) would be perfect for this image, that way, you are already starting the 'branding' process before you even start marketing to your new found audience.

Next, you are going to want to setup the rest of your information/profile/page layout, go steady witht his though, a lot of people overdo their MySpace profile, filling it with gourdy colors, obtrusive images and distracting sounds, remember, you want your MySpace visitors to feel comfortable on your page so make it easy on the eyes.

Finding Your New Customers.

Now that you have your profile setup, it is time to start searching for your potential new customers, however, before inviting everybody that you run in to to add themselves to your friends list, you should work out exactly *WHO* your target audience is going to be. There are several ways to get new friends looking at your MySpace profile, the honest way, by manually going through the MySpace directory, and the quick way, by purchasing a MySpace Bot and letting that do the hard work for you.

** Be advised that MySpace does not like the use of bots and they will terminate your account if you are found to be using one**

Now we have that disclaimer out of the way, we can continue with the article...

Now You Have Friends - Market To Them.

Now that your MySpace profile shows you have 1 billion new friends, you need to know how to be successfull at marketing to them, remember this rule of thumb and you wont go far wrong - Never Spam Them.

You want to keep the people on your friends list, 'ON' your friends list so be subtle in your marketing, every so often, maybe once a week, send them a bulletin containing something that is of interest to them, if you are selling privacy software for example, send them a news peice about some office worker who got fired from work for surfing porn, if you are selling candy apples, send them a bulletin that contains some recipes relating to candy apples.

Whenever you send out a bulletin, post it on your MySpace blog also. A lot of MySpace profiles look the same so one that has a lot of blog activity is going to draw additional attention, the added benefit of course with this is that your audience will (hopefully) continue coming back to check out your blog, exposing them to your marketing efforts time and time again.

Post a video on your profile page - That is relevant to what you are trying to sell your market audience. Again, as with the horrible sounds, clanky images and stuff being used when building your MySpace page, make sure the video doesnt distract the viewer, you want them to associate any video you post with a product, site or service you are trying to sell them.

Finally, when you get sent a message by a MySpace 'friend' reply to that message as soon as you can, everyone knows that building a solid business means doing a lot of groundwork in keeping your customers (and potential customers) happy, dont keep them waiting weeks or months for a reply from you, send them a response as soon as possible and you might find that word of mouth marketing from your new found friends gives your MySpace marketing efforts an even bigger boost.

MySpace Marketing Round-Up.

By spending 5-10 minutes setting up a MySpace profile, and targeting the demographic that is most likely to be interested in the products, sites or services you are selling, you open your business up to tremendous growth, not only from direct customers from your MySpace profile, but also word of mouth advertising and brand recognition. However, as i mentioned at the start of this article, you need to watch your audience, dont go advertising 'porn' to minors, use your brain and try marketing something that has a global audience, plenty of sponsors these days have non-adult offerings that pay out just as much, sometimes more, than porn site memberships and MySpace gives you a great vehicle to try your hand at marketing these and a new approach to generating traffic to your sites.
