Opening a forum in members areas questions...

If you were to start a new site, and wanted a forum in the members area, would you open the site with the forum, or wait until there were a lot of members? Also, would you give away some free passes to kinda beef the forum up, or just do it yourself and have multiple board personalities?

You do realize by 'gay' I mean a man who has sex with other men?

I totally agree with Patti on this one, thats one of the mistakes i made on Condom Cash, i added forums to all the sites when they first launched and they were dead, which meant members who were new to the site didnt feel the site was worth staying a member of.

As soon as i removed the forums, membership retention started to increase.

Outside of the members area - My vote as well.

Also, I would open with a small number of sections. The downfall to a few Forums is that they open with 20 sections and one or two posts in each. It looks like a dead forum unworthy of Joining.

I much prefer forums with only 1 or 2 sections too.
