I Wonder? How to best find a WEB DEVELOPER / ENGINEER ?

I have a gay adult college fetish website ... and i need to find someone who can help me take it to the next level... ie: more social networking etc rather than just porn vids. . .

BUT !! Because web development is not my expertise... i don't know how to competently find / interview a web engineer / developer. When i put an add on Craig's List i get a zillion responses... they all sound like they know what they are doing... but how do i know? AND, is there another place beside CL that i can go to find competent (gay) web developers who do porn? If anyone has any leads let me know too!

I'm very frustrated and thought i'd turn to my gay peers on here for thier sagacious advice... I don't have a lot of money... but i (and my website) DO have a lot of potential !! I just need to find the right person to handle the website side of things.

    PLEASE HELP !!

    Chris

Perhaps look at www.elance.com. At least you'll be able to check on the reputations of those that respond to you, if you post the job you need doing.

I'd ask a potential developer to give me URLs for a couple of projects he built. Anyone can claim he designed Google or Yahoo so I would also request that he include the name of the person he reported to at the site. Then you can contact that person by email or phone directly from their website (important, because if you email or phone any old address/number the developer gives you, how do you know it's someone actually associated with the site in question?). Ask about how it was working with the developer, if they feel satisfied with the results, etc.

You can also take a look at sites which you find interesting and well designed. Many times the developer will have a small link at the bottom of the main page so you can contact him. If not, send an email to the webmaster and inquire about who their developer is and follow up with the same inquiries as above about their work with that developer.

It's good that I found this topic because I am interested in app development. I would like to find some reliable resources so I know where to start.

    Hi Donald,

Not sure how you managed to come up with a post that is 13 years old! This board isn't posted to very much any more, but if you're serious about working in the Gay Porn Industry, head over to www.gaydemon.biz and apply to become a member of that community. It's still very active and there are a lot of knowledgeable people that hang out there.

    Good luck!

    Thanks Bec.

Because you mentioned it, I just went and checked it out, like I do every couple of years. I didn't apply because that didn't work 10 through 14 years ago! I read several posts bemoaning the obvious state of shrinking webmaster membership. But I did not bother applying, because my applications had been turned down 10+ years ago. And now there isn't enough time in the day!

I've never been just a webmaster. I've always been a studio, a performer, a producer, Director, editor, creator. And in multi-media, like VOD, DVD, books, eBooks, and now various LGBT+ Pride Flag art collectibles. And quietly in NFTs.

I always liked GWW as a place where I could meet others in the biz and share ideas. To buy things, more than to sell things. There was the rupture, >2008 power grab which like all power grabs did little but divide and be conquered with all of the hate-filled name calling.

So the webmaster biz is smaller, but I and my Friends are on OnlyFans, Twitter and Facebook, several model portfolio sites, the 8 most popular Live Cam sites, and at the popular in-person Trade Shows (AVN, InterNext, TES, XBiz, BCams, Bucharest Summit). We're all independent performers, producers and creators. But there's more of us as performers. Not keyboard warriors.

OnlyFans, Twitter and Facebook don't discriminate in membership based on competitiveness. I've never been anyone's competitor, but others have treated me as a competitive threat to them, so I have more Friends in the other places that actually produce work.

So I have been a member here since 2004, not there, and rarely on GFY. But on Facebook, Twitter, the 3 top VOD platforms (now shrinking to 2), OnlyFans, JustFor.fans, ManyVids, FapHouse, Chaturbate, StripChat, Streamen, CamSoda, BongaCams, CAM4... Freelancer and Fiverr. All in the past 18 years.

The biz is actually growing, not shrinking. Only small minds are shrinking. Get out from behind your keyboards and produce!

Actually while typing that post, I paused twice to to cock flash chats on the best Live Cam site, and earned more in 10 minutes than I do all day on other sites!

The world is a big place, for open minds.

It saddens me that an award winning gay marketing forum like GWW was when I first joined in 2003 can't have any real camaraderie twenty years (gasp!) later. I miss everybody!

So where are you now Nick? Still not stuck somewhere because of COVID I hope!

    Hi Bec -

I had my 2 main COVID vaccs in 2021, and 1 1/2 Boosters in 2022.
    Plus Flu vaccs.

I continue my Nomadic travels in Europe. For 2022:
    Milan, Italy
    Palermo, Italy
    Zagreb, Croatia
Dublin, IE for the big annual gaytheatre.ie theater festival
    Liverpool, UK
    London, UK
    Zagreb, Croatia

I go where Internet is Fiber Optic!

My Visa schedule was upside down for the European trade shows (I had Visa for UK when the Bucharest shows were happening, and UK when TES Prague was), but I am on schedule for 2023 for TES Cascais, Bucharest Summit and BCams, and TES Prague. I love all 4 of those shows! The last one I was at in person was TES Cascais, 2020!!

2022 was highlighted by big popularity of Faphouse.com, merger of HotMovies and AdultEmpire.
And of course the Cam platforms.

I have not been doing in-person shootings, but I have been hiring models in other countries to self-shoot scenes, and upload!

I need a large wall sized map of the world and a bunch of pushpins to keep track of all the places you visit Nick. Stay safe and have a great New Year in 2023!
