    Have Webmasters Become To Lazy?

Just lately it seems like webmasters want everything for free and more for little or no work.

Do you think in the past 12 months webmasters are getting lazier in general?

An example would be sponsors who offer free content, hosted galleries and the likes, webmasters IMHO have grown accustomed to getting everything done for them, they dont have to build galleries any more, they dont need to buy content any more.

Where is this madness going to end?

    Opinions?

    Regards,

    Lee

    Hee-hee!

    Speaking personally, I am lazy!

But speaking about the industry in general, I think new webmasters that came in a couple of years back were starting on free sites and working their way up to TGPs when they had their marketing skills down.

Now I see people asking on newbie message boards "what's a free site".

I think TGP has become all pervading (sponsors offer galleries, they don't offer free sites do they), and most people who've come into the webmastering in the past year or so are jumping straight into TGPs and I dunno what we can do about all this free porn on the web.

Everyday I submit to the TGPs, so I'm adding to that free porn myself, although I do try to keep standards that I personally feel comfortable with - for example, I don't submit sites/galleries to anywhere with rules that I regard as too surfer-friendly, and I am still very ungiving towards to the surfer in terms of what they have to do to get to my content - maybe I'm tight, but it still niggles me to give them 15 pictures on a gallery :ahso:

I guess the fact that so many webmasters are exclusively building TGP galleries means that TGP traffic could be dropping in quality as it increases in quantity, because the TGP surfers know where to find 1000's of free pictures and movies every single day.

More savy webmasters could take advantage of this and concentrate on building SE and Link List sites, which have historically yielded higher quality traffic than TGPs have.

I thought it was a shame that TGP2 kinda flopped, but I guess once the cats out of the bag, how do you get him back in?

Add to that any Joe Surfer can boot up Kazaa or WinMX and download full-length DVD-rips of porn movies.

Regarding sponsor galleries - I think most of them are pretty crappy in terms of marketing to the surfer, and they are often all built to a small number of templates, so surfers are gonna look over a lot of them like white noise, so I don't seem them as a huge problem, although it is dis-heartening to see a TGP listing rows and rows of Cruise Patrol or Bait Bus galleries - those listings are going to take away traffic that we are building galleries to try and get.

BUT, in face of all of that, sponsors ARE still paying out tons of cash to webmasters each week - so there IS cash out there, and lots of it, for those of us who are willing to put the work. :groovy:

I totally disagree (I'm in a fightin mood), here's why:

I think every one will agree that over the last few years it has gotten harder and harder to make a buck in this industry, especially with the credit card regulations which resulted in smaller affiliate payouts across the board. This has forced webmasters to do a lot more to make the same money. Ask any webmaster if they do more or less than what they were doing a year ago. I know when I first started out I was doing TGP galleries and free sites, now my partner & I run a hosting company, a content site, pay sites, an affiliate program, several hundred domains and several thousand free/avs sites not to mention the number of tgp galleries! Plus I am looking to expand.

I also think affiliate programs recognized this when they saw a decline in sales. This forced them to think of better ways to help out their affiliates...thus the beginning of free content, free hosted galleries, etc. I think this is just the start too. For example, look at how AVS sites are going (cyberage is a good one to look at).

Where is the madness going to end? good question!

    Cheers,

    Luke

Ian, Luke, Good posts from you both :groovy:

Im not to sure if the 'its getting harder to make money' argument stands up in this instance though, i mean, in reality, why is it harder to make money?

Because webmasters can just throw up a bunch of free hosted galleries on a domain, put a simple design up and voila they have a 'tgp'.

My personal feelings are that by offering webmasters all of this free marketing content that is what is making it harder for people to make money, especially the newer webmasters because i think they have a pre conceived notion that all they have to do is use the hosted galleries afterall, their sponsors are telling them they convert arent they

You may be right...maybe it is an opportunity for old fashioned gallery makers to make money cuz they are *not* pushing sponsor hosted galleries?

    Cheers,

Well, maybe I'm biased a bit , but I also run a few TGP's and the quality of some of the galleries that get posted to me leave something to be desired. Yes, some of the sponsor galleries are not the best either.. If the sponsors would update their free hosted galleries more than once every 6 months, that would be good.. :goof:

I noticed on your TGP, Cumsoda, that all the galleries you put together have content that you bought or that your sponsors give to their affiliates. There is a glut of adult content for available for sale..

From what I have seen lately, more folks are using either gallery submissions, or sponsor galleries.. I'm not sure if I would call it being lazy.. there's always a ton of projects on my to do list and anyhting that simplifies things is a good thing as Martha would say..
