.xxx already banned in India!

Its not even officially launched, and already the .xxx namespace is being banned in India! According to The Economic Times, India will be just one of several countries to immediately ban all access to .xxx domains.

"India along with many other countries from the Middle East and Indonesia opposed the grant of the domain in the first place, and we would proceed to block the whole domain, as it goes against the IT Act and Indian laws," said a senior official at the ministry of IT. "Though some people have said that segregation is better, and some countries allow it. But for other nations transmission and direct distribution of such content goes against their moral and culture," he added.

So far, there have been over 250,000 pre-registered .xxx domain names. And to add injury to insult, when a porn company registers their .xxx domain (say, to protect themselves from hijacking), it makes it VERY easy for governments to proceed with blocking the .com, .net, etc. equivalents.

When asked if the same sites, continue to provide access under the .in and .com domain, he added that "for such cases the ministry would proceed on a case to case basis".

I hope more countries block it too. If so, it won't be long before .xxx isn't worth a damn and Lawley loses out on a fortune for those of us who don't even bothering registering. I know I won't be registering any domains any time soon.

It will be a worthless domain, countries will block it, all parental controls, work places and so on will block it. Making a domain so easily tagged as adult means that a large number of people will never be able to see a site with .xxx so there is no point registering it in my opinion.

A husband at home isn't going to be going to a .xxx site on the off chance the wife might see it and so on.
