    Happy What Statistics Programs You Use?

    Twinkpay.com been using google analytics. it gives detailed reports for our sites needs.

    but is there another, much better stats program out there?
    if there ain't, and you wanted to have one, what would you do or add to make it the "dream stats program"?

    I use NATS for most of my stats plus server stats via webalizer.

    I have google analytics installed on our sites, but I have always found it a pain. I think the interface is too clumsy and I hate that I can't get an overview of all my sites together, but instead have to dive into each. By any chance, are you an analytics expert? I would love to know what you look at and how you manage your data from it.

    Put multiple tracking tags on each page. I typically have 3 tags on each page. Here's an example...

    Code:
    <script type="text/javascript">

      var _gaq = _gaq || [];
      _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-950572-1']);
      _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']);

      _gaq.push(['s3x._setAccount', 'UA-950572-12']);
      _gaq.push(['s3x._setDomainName', 'none']);
      _gaq.push(['s3x._setAllowLinker', true]);
      _gaq.push(['s3x._trackPageview']);

      _gaq.push(['s3xb._setAccount', 'UA-950572-27']);
      _gaq.push(['s3xb._setDomainName', 'none']);
      _gaq.push(['s3xb._setAllowLinker', true]);
      _gaq.push(['s3xb._trackPageview']);

      (function() {
        var ga = document.createElement('script'); ga.type = 'text/javascript'; ga.async = true;
        ga.src = ('https:' == document.location.protocol ? 'https://ssl' : 'http://www') + '.google-analytics.com/ga.js';
        var s = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0]; s.parentNode.insertBefore(ga, s);
      })();

    </script>
    The first tag is for the site. The second tag is for my "all sites" profile. The third tag is for my "all blogs" profile. Notice that I set a different object for the 2nd and 3rd tags. Works well.

    I think Analytics can do a whole lot more than webalizer. We're currently exploring "funnels" so we can see how visitors move through our tours, what percentage of them reach the joinpage, on the basis of what keywords etc etc.

    With a bit of digging Analytics provides an amazing amount of detail to see what visitors to your site are doing. You can then use that to optimize your sites and tours, see what works and what doesn't, etc.

    Yeah I like that tip, thanks rawTOP. And I have never even heard of funnels before. Bert, is that easy to setup? And also, do you guys think that having analytics running on your site also affects your Google rankings?

    Luke, it is quite easy to setup funnels in Analytics "goals". You define an entry point, for example your tour, and an exit point, in my case the joinpage. Under "goals" you will then get very visual info about what visitors are doing and what percentage end up where you want them to go. There's a lot more info, like who abandons the tours, and at what stage, etc.

    I am still learning and perfecting this. Epoch has an option to add Google Analytics to product codes, but it does not seem to work. My Epoch account rep did not have a clue either, and I have not followed it up with Epoch yet.

    funnels are one of the best ways to use google analytics.
    if they're properly set up, you can learn a helluva of info as surfers move around your site.

    (or so i've been told ymmv)
