This is from our research as well as speaking with others. We have spent probably a couple thousand dollars on this ourselves.

IF you offer Flash Videos, there are toolbars which will allow the user to download the FLV Video. Secondly there are free programs out there which will convert the FLV file to a WMV file. Third, your correct, there is software that captures. We use it on our live cam site.

Secondly, you have two types of customers...
Loyal Customers - Those who don't share your videos, but download and may watch them amongst their buddies.

Content Thieving Bastards - These are the ones that join at the cheapest price they can, download everything you've got, then run with it and share them.

Your loyal customers want videos in AT LEAST one if not both of these formats:
WMV
Flash Streaming.
The Mac users want flash, the PC users want WMV or vise versa and both.
If you don't offer downloads... You'll piss off your loyal customers. They'll leave, never come back. Remember, your competing with virtually millions of sites out there.

Now, if I may suggest a few things... This is from our research and speaking with dozens of other companies including the anti-piracy programs...

a) Watermark your videos and BE SURE your URL is on them! THIS IS A MUST!
There's millions of pirated sites out there. If your video goes up on a tube. Is this content theft, copyright violations, or a marketing strategy? ALL 3! Tubes get millions of views DAILY. Which means your video can get up to 1 million views every day which = more sales for you.
