Most people think the way to kill pirate sites is to cut the income

Well that is one way for sure. But how about hitting the host and the company that registered the domain to them.

Personally I have not had much luck with any of these including hitting the money. They all say the same thing. Since its not our site there is nothing we can do.

None of the people profiting from the piracy really want to do anything about it.

if anyone has any methods of this that they want to share. I have my E Ears on!:naughty:

One thing I have heard is legally you can't go after the domain registrar. Removing or shutting down the domain is very difficult and the process varies from registrar to registrar.

The host, When sending DMCA's you always always always want to send them to the host. If you don't and the site decides not to take down the content, the host is considered your "backup." If the site refuses against the host, the host can then make the decision to shut you down, I've even seen some remove the files infringing.

The best method of success is we're hammering the hosts, the webmasters, and some even the CC processors such as paypal, alertpay, etc. They are shutting these guys down hard. That's how we've had success.

The way we're operating is first talking to these pirate sites as "one friend" to another to get the sites to remove the "download" content or tube videos, become an affiliate, and we walk them through legal ways of becomming active affiliates in a legal method. IF this does not succeed within a matter of a few days, that's when we bring out the dogs and attack them hard (with the aid of other respectable content owners) and we battle them down hard. That's how we're succeeding. Hosts or Google, etc. are seeing these DMCA's pouring in and it's a semi-shocker to them and it's very overwhelming and it really helps us out. Some hosts will say, "We've contacted the site." Some will demand the site to shut down. Some give a second chance. I don't believe in second chances at habitual pirates. That's when I encourage for producers to continue attacking hard! We have the support of over 100 producers! AND GROWING DAILY!

But you do have some valid points.

Eventually GoDaddy and NameCheap etc will have to help. Its like the law suits when someone shoots another person. The gun maker is always named, and briefly investigated about sales practice.

In this case, since the site does not exist without the domain, then they DO have some liability.

Namecheap will already act if they receive more than a certain number of DMCA's, they have been acting for quite a while.

There was a reply by one of the Namecheap reps sometime last year on their own forum, that said a site or domain that they continually received DMCA notices about, they would shut down or take action with regards to the domain.

Thats great. Now if we could just get Godaddy to do the same. It seems they dont care.

I always get the run around from them.

That is exactly how we're shutting sites down. We're fighting to have content producers, etc. send their DMCA's immediately. The more hammered the hosts and domain registrars are, the better our battles.

If you can post the Site/domain of the day everyday or make a mailing list I would love to be on it and more than willing to check for our content.

like you said the more people that send the better.

Godaddy doesn't care until they've been threatened. Excuse my language but they are assholes. I hate dealing with them. We are actually in litigation with a law firm to work with us on battling only Godaddy hosted sites - eventually some others. With this effort, we're trying to work out a method of where producers send their DMCA's to the host, domain, etc. and include the law firm and let the law firm deal with Godaddy. It's a big process, but we're trying everything to go after them with the help of other content owners.
