Google announced on Friday that its Chrome, Picasa and Gmail products now use WebP, the new image compression format that Google released late last year to replace JPEG, which is supposed to make images load upto 40% faster.
The announcement also said that they made loads of improvements in webP for better quality, giving loads of details on their technical changes.
You can get further info, including links to software to manipulate webP images from http://blog.chromium.org/2011/05/webp-in-chrome-picasa-gmail-with-slew.html
Is anyone here going to be using webP yet? I think its a bit premature, as I believe only chrome and opera are using it, but its definitely one to keep an eye on!
