    My opinion, learn blogging

So I've been reading A LOT on various adult forums about blogging. Mainly complaints of "I'm not making money." I want to add my 2 cents on how blogging works for us....

    a) Create a nice looking theme. There are many out there to choose from. Learn the code! You can search how to edit them through google. Add a sexual header, clean text. Make it purdy!

    b) POST POST POST! We've found that by signing up to a bunch of affiliate programs who offer downloadable content for webmasters. Edit the description in your own words. Never use theirs. Describe it. A good paragraph or two would be great.

b-1) Many say that if a program doesn't work for them and they can't sell it. Still add it anyways but spend less time on it. The description, title, etc. will help you with SEO. Never drop a program. Just spend less time on it. It will help you.

    c) LINK TRADE! Trade links with anyone and everyone!

    d) POST POST POST! Add something every day. One thing we do is actually go to a paysite. If there's a hot model there. Take the pic. Let the program know that you've taken the pic(s). Describe that model. Describe what that model does in the content that you see him on. Post why he's hot. Be as descriptive as possible.

d-1) Describe what your up to. Occasionally readers like to hear about the webmaster.

    e) Social Networking. Let them be your friend. Whenever you post something, post a sentence about it on Twitter, Facebook, Myspace, etc. And use goo.gl to link to your site.

    f) SEO - Add a google sitemap to it. Use google and bing to your advantage. Also WEBCEO.com has became our friend. Study Google's webmaster blog, you can learn some cool stuff there too. Use unique title headings on your post. A few words to describe the update.

    g) Don't flood with pics. I'd say use no more than 5. Unless it's something big on an update.

    h) Categories. Use as many categories as possible. Someone may want to do a specific search.

    i) Be creative! Don't do what others are doing. It's okay to get an idea from them. Never copy what they're doing.

    j) At the end of each post, many use the words that state, "Click here to check it out." Don't use that. Use the text that says, "CLICK HERE TO WATCH JOHN DOE FUCK JOHN DOE'S BRAINS OUT IN A REALLY SEXY VENTURE." Something of that nature but you want to get them to click on that link.

    k) Don't get in over your head. Many manage 10+ blogs. I've learned the hard way that by doing that, you can easily lose focus on your blogs. We dropped down to one and in all honesty, we put all of our focus into it. It's always been the most profitable.

With all of this, our Alexa rank dropped from million something down to 700,000 and we're ranging from 200 clicks per day all the way up to 500. 4 months ago it wasn't even half that.

Others may have opinions as well. This has worked for us. So maybe if your a newbie at blogging, this may help you. And possibly follow others comments. :knit:

Yep, I think consistent quality blogging is still the best targeted traffic generator there is...

All great advice, I would like to add a few things that work for me...

Stick to your niche as tightly as possible, and don't be too general unless you want a lot of work promoting it. The tighter the niche, the more traffic you'll get for it with less effort than a general "gay porn blog".

Have some personality. Throw a little of your character (or a manufactured one) in with your posts.

I would disagree on your suggestion of only one or two paragraphs. Of the blogs I have, the ones with lengthy text posts here and there pull in the most traffic. Write about anything related.
The more text there is the more Google will value the site as a provider of information. One of the biggest mistakes affiliate bloggers make is their lack of original text.

Add correct tags to images before you upload them. Then make sure those same tags are added in the right place for that image.

I would also disagree with starting out with a network. As long as you can keep up with the posting, have as many as possible in various niches, and experiment. One of them will do better than the others, and then you know which one to focus on and build. You can still support the others and update less frequently, but the wider the net, the more traffic, and the more sales.

It might be predictable for me to say it, but if you can't keep up with posting on a blog every single day with enough original text, why not hire someone else to help you out with it?
It doesn't cost a lot to have a decent writer creating your text for you, and at least you'll know you're getting daily updates and you can concentrate on building links, or work on new projects.

I have to strongly disagree with this one. You want to "trade" with as many authority sites as possible. Trading links with anyone and everyone can get you in heaps of trouble with Google.

It's not the quantity of the trades that matter. It's the quality and how they are structured.

What's the real 'links' scoop today? I remember when indeed, any and every link was a positive move, then they had to be reciprocal links, then they had to be three way links...what is the current best practice, presuming they are quality links?

I can't ever really remember the day when every link was a positive move in the eyes of Google. The best links that one can get are one way links from an authority site with the proper anchor text. You can play the ABC link trade game; but you need to be careful.

The problem as I see it is that so many are giving away their Google juice with nothing valuable in return.

I guess I know a little about a lot, but SEO is a limited knowledge area for me - is there a strategy that works for getting one-way incoming links from authority sites? I would think you'd have to have an established site with PR of what for someone to consider doing you that service?

Good post. May I emphasize that social neworking is becoming more and more relevant, so get those "share" buttons on every post and get setup with twitter, facebook, etc accounts and share your blog posts with them.

Absolutely agree with this. We have the SexyBookmarks widget - the buttons appear under every post, and while not many people do share (and you have to do something wild or hilarious to get people sharing) it makes it far easier to spread new posts yourself manually.
