Ha! No, drunks leaving the gay sports bar when I am picking Michael up from work. They like to do it in the parking lot.

Stripping isn't what scares me about a nude beach. The other people I imagine to be there is what scares me. The clothed beach is seedy enough for me.

Back to abandoned buildings. There is a VA hospital in central Indiana. Back during the wars, this was where the 'fighters' would go to for mental health, physical medical help, etc. It was on high security.

It's been abandoned since the mid to late 60's. However, in the complex there's like 2 buildings that still operate.

There's a building there called "bloody building." This was the mental asylum. Ghost Hunters (television show) has been there. There is paranormal activity....
When I was a kid, a friend and I broke in and explored it because we heard about all of the gory stories about it. We busted a window and walked right on in.
The place is haunted. We heard very weird sounds, sounds that couldn't be described. A door shut on us when we walked through one corridor, a light flickered when we looked in one room. A few times we felt cold things touch us. It wasn't an insect or animal. It felt like an ice cube on us.
There were 3-4 rooms where the walls look as if they had been covered in blood.
    So on and so forth.
We were so damn scared. SO SCARED! But we wanted to keep going.

Anyways, since the FBI and gov't has closed it down. Construction workers have gone in there to begin demolishing the buildings. Something 10 of them have came up missing since they went in the building. It's several years now and they haven't been found. I strongly doubt this is a hoax.

Looking back now, had it not been this way it would have been awesome to film a couple of movies in there.

    Whoa, we're on topic!

My favorite is the Henryton Center, which at first was a TB hospital for African American's and then become a mental health hospital until it was closed in the 80's or 90's. They have security that routinely patrols but if you come in by the train tracks that run next to the property (about a mile walk) you're fine. Vandals have ruined a lot of it (as well as arsonists), but I think it actually adds to the appeal.

There is another abandoned hospital that is more in tact, but it's on federal property and misdemeanor trespassing turns into a felony if you're busted. That one is more well guarded and your chances of getting increase exponentially.

They say Henryton Center is haunted by the ghosts of TB patients, but I never got any weird vibes until in the attic of a burned out building. I had the weirdest sensation and was literally scared out of the place. Odd since I don't believe in any of that stuff.

I always went to Henryton Center around 1 or 2 AM and couldn't take photos, but plenty of day time explorers have. The state wants to tear it down, but keep removing the money to do so from the budget.

I'm not into it myself but I find some of the places and reports people make fascinating.

This is a huge resource for Urban Exploring in the UK - (Someone make it a link for me - I don't have enough posts) http://28dayslater.co.uk/forums/

(I edited your post so the link shows. -Jesse)

When we were looking for a place 2-3 years ago we went through a lot of townhouse shells. Some were a bit spooky - many of the cellars were pitch black, some had blocked up windows so the whole things were dark, some were so decrepit you didn't know if the staircase or floor was going to hold you up. One in particular smelled strongly of piss and shit from a dog that was kept there years before - it had all seeped into the floorboards. One had dead cats in it - that one a friend bought and when I walked through just after their purchase I counted 4 dead cats in it. Others were sorta beautiful with the peeling paint and whatnot. And of course there was the one I went through that collapsed unexpectedly a few months later when they were doing work to fix structural problems.

So yeah, I love urban exploration...

Haulover Beach is only a half-hour away from FTL.

Simon on another "board" used to post some incredible photos of his and his cohorts exploits. They climbed Notre Dame, the Brooklyn Bridge, etc...Crazy photos.

I hope he is doing well, as I haven't seen anything from him lately.

This brings back horrible memories. I was a Baltimore City REO agent in my prior life and I had to list a lot of abandoned shells for banks... or abandoned homes. I had to call for a police escort more than a few times because I was simply too terrified to go in if I saw signs of a recent break-in. I certainly didn't want to go in and encounter a crack head or worse.

Even the cops were scared. They always went in with their guns drawn. One time they thought they found a body (while I was next to them), but it turns out it wasn't.

There were some neighborhoods I simply "did not belong in." For the most part nobody harassed me when out of my car inspecting a property. I was actually more closely scrutinized when I was getting photos exterior and street photos from my car because they assumed I was an undercover narc.

One thing that surprised me though is when I'd have to knock on the door of an occupied home to inform them that the bank was taking it back ... I always prepared for hostility but rarely received any. The elderly people with barren houses who were forced to raise their grand kids always made me saddest. I can absolutely attest to the "everybody in the ghetto has new cars and big flat screen TV's" belief held by many is a bold faced lie. Even most of the street dealers don't have that because the higher ups let them keep so little to live off.

I remember his awesome photos and yeah, it's been forever since he's posted.

You can mention GFY. We don't have a rule against mentioning other boards... everybody knows most of them and we know people post at many. I've never understood that rule at the zoo. People are afraid to post relevant links or try to hint at where they found important information.
