"Only an idiot would pay for porn."
Hello, Tubes?
The consumers are calling you what you are.
You are not advertising movies and driving traffic. You're giving IP content away for free.

While many of us, including myself, have said that if people don't pay for porn, then there won't be producers willing to put thousands of dollars into a production just to have his profits sucked up by the free tubes. While that may certainly impact the volume available, drabacus's comment drives home the point that the internet is available to ANYONE to share personal porn footage. And that includes all of the niches and sub-niches that people are turned on by. So while selective niche sites may still be afloat, it does bring into question just how long can they maintain a profitable bottom line.drabacus: The main development in the last decade, as even Irving Welsh can tell you, is that amateurs are uploading homemade material. And it turns out that this is what the average porn viewer wants. By and large, it seems people are far more interested in the Smiths next door banging away than in the fakery of most American pron (and American porn has its own peculiarly bad aesthetic which is put to shame by French or Czech productions).
And I have to admit, I agree that the industry won't be able to sustain itself on the internet with the volume of sites offering free access, or average joe personal "sharing" sites. And there is also the wider question: do those who use porn not, perhaps, owe it a little something? Should those who download it not be ready to pass on a little cash incentive to the business? And if not, why not? Does the stigma attached to porn make it OK to steal it? These questions underpin a much bigger dilemma being faced by all media: how do you sustain an industry that provides a certain standard of product – be it journalism, music, or mainstream movies, or X-rated movies – when more and more consumers are in the habit of downloading content for free? In the world of porn, the answer is: you can't.
More of the rewards need to go to the people who produce the original content. How do we do that? Tougher laws on copyright? It's ludicrous the way YouTube was allowed to hide behind the safe harbour laws and perpetrate the biggest content theft in history, when at the same time governments are extraditing teenagers who merely linked to sites which had files of pirated movies. Of course Google is campaigning for weaker copyright, not stronger, and it is so big now that it is influencing governments.
Ad revenue is never going to support original quality content. The money is spread too thinly, with numerous parasites who contribute very little, taking their cut of it. They are just copying and pasting, stealing and regurgitating content alongside ads.
The UK government is looking at introducing a small claims court for copyright which will handle claims up to 5,000UKP initially. A figure which may rise to 15,000UKP within a short time. I hope it happens.
I think we'll see more newspapers going over to paywalls. Maybe, as suggested in the article, in porn there will be more stories and the kind of films that amateurs can't produce.
That Guardian article is humbug. It mainly addresses the stultified ways of old dinosaurs in the San Fernando valley who want to sell DVDs, or maybe, god forbid, print magazines. Yes, that business is dying. But our TwinkPay program has increased revenue substantially over the past year. We produce all original content, just introduced a new site (twinkboysparty.com), promote on tubes and give away plenty of content for free. And we don't sell DVDs.
Your's is a site that sells its content.
The argument is about Tubes and Blogs that give away content for free, thus depriving studios and talent of revenue needed to produce more content.
Digital access to paid content is convenient, but there's a segment of the population that likes tangible goods, of the quality digital downloads is not at yet.

Indeed, we have paysites. And we use blogs and tubes to their fullest extent to give content away for promotion, thus attracting more visitors, and selling more memberships. We are a "studio" and our models get paid quite well. Our HD downloads are of better quality than DVD, methinks. And you can burn them to DVD as well! :-)
There are still vast numbers of people who wouldn't know where to start when it comes to burning a film to a DVD. A heck of a lot are even unable to find something on their harddrive after they've downloaded it. I see this level of computer skills all the time.

the Internet changed alot of things and will continue to change alot of things! ( interpreted: those of us that are old will feel it the fastest and hardest! ... it's a good thing I'm a Slut and can "cum" on command! - LOL ) , if your going to survive you've got to learn to adapt ( interpreted: ... okay show of Hands , how many of you still produce VHS and DVD/BLU-RAY at Home? - LOL ) otherwise you may want to consider EBAY AUCTIONS ... starting with the Contents of your House and working your way out to the GNOMES in the Garden.
the INTERNET is not going away ( interpreted: it's the "Toothbrush" you use everyday ... for those of you that brush your Teeth everyday! - LOL ) , your audience is Global ( interpreted: language restricts "You" if You only speak "english!" ) , and a hint ... ( read blog! )

If you don't brush your teeth every day and have garden gnomes then I think your success will be limited. It definitely shows a lack of good judgment!
The main thing is to evolve or die.
It seems to me that there really has always been some type of "stealing of content" in one way shape or form, when it comes to the porn industry. First it was mags, and how many of us either lent out or borrowed a buddies "jack" material? Then it was VHS tapes, so forth and so on.
My point is...yes the Internet has opened up a whole bag of thieving little worms, however the industry has seemed to maintain itself no matter what.
Producing content and then having some tube site steal it and show it for free sucks, however, must production companies still produce.
We'll get through this.
