Awesome Beginner's Guide to Switching to HTTPS On Your Blogs

I'm a big fan of https://wpbeginner.com, as Syd and his staff have a phenomenal amount of free tutorials, advice and even some free stuff for WordPress users.

This article is all about getting your WordPress site working as an https address. If you aren't aware of it, starting this month, Google Chrome will start showing sites without the https as NOT SECURE.

They'll do it regardless of whether or not you collect money on your site. Google wants the internet to be more secure and are basically forcing everyone to make the switch. Not having https is going to impact your site's ranking ... heavily.

Syd has taken the time to outline, step-by-step, the procedure to add SSL certificates and change the urls on your blogs. Move WordPress from HTTP to HTTPS He even goes into possible errors you may encounter and how to fix them.

I hope you guys find it useful!

Our Friends at MojoHost are Free SSL Certificates!'

I really didn't have to do anything, but start typing "https://" rather than "http://" to find that out!

Most subpages or internal pages seem to be following suit as "https://"...

Except for those that I manually created links for as "http://".

Pages that you don't have hardcoded as "http://" are going to upgrade themsevles as "https://"...

The big thing to remember in your Google Webmaster Tools (and Bing):
Search Engines consider "https://mydomain.com" and "http://mydomain.com" as 2 separate websites!

...with separate crawls, separate click histories, sitemaps, indexing, etc.

Ask your web host if SSL Certs are free, have them implement if not already there, get your Webmaster Tools up-to-date to reflect both "https://mydomain.com" and "http://mydomain.com" properties. i.e. add a new property for every "https://mydomain.com".

But, Why are you not already with MojoHost? They've been here on GWW for many years!

I'm with NatNet because my sites are on one of Luke's servers. They will also install the free SSL if you ask them to.

He's living in Costa Rica, where he's had a couple of different home addresses. He and his husband have finally gotten the latest house fixed up and the roof doesn't leak. His hubby is involved with some sort of app business, and I honestly have no clue what Luke is doing, if anything, as far as work goes. He's mostly growing bananas and mangoes and playing with his dogs and running up and down the beach.

Sounds like a rough life .... LOL

    Shouldn't gaywidewebmasters.com be doing that?

    I host with MojoHost.

They did the free SSL Certificate ordering.

A few hours later, I just started typing https:// instead of http://.

Is it possible that this forum software has http:// hardcoded?

If not, transition should be instant, automatic and transparent.

I honestly couldn't answer that question.

But I am happy to report that NatNet setup my SSL and even figured out that Apache needed a leading / added. I was getting domain.commain instead of domain.com/main on my html sites.
