What do you think will happen?

Indulge me for a moment if you will. Effective in February, just a couple short months away, Visa/MC will be enforcing a 1% chargeback limit. What I'd like to hear from you is your opinion on how this will affect our industry, the way we do business and what changes you think will need to be made.

We have been fighting for our merchant accounts as long as this industry has been around. And we keep getting them because as much as the banks don't like to be associated with "adult business" they know it makes them money. How do you think these new regulations from Visa/MC will change our access to those merchant accounts. Will all the smaller webmasters be driven out of business or forced to sign up under larger programs?

Do you think these changes will have a different impact on the Gay end of the market than on the straight end...if so how?

    Looking forward to your feedback.

I don't think gay or straight is going to make any difference.

Yeah, adult is big business for the CC companies but they are also in the position of dictating how their (lion's) share of the business is conducted. A minority of extremely busy crooks have done this to the majority of us who are trying to conduct honest business.

It's most likely going to make it harder for the individual webmaster than companies who can possibly cover charges incurred by bad affiliates.

You do realize by 'gay' I mean a man who has sex with other men?

I agree with mardigras its not really going to be a gay/straight issue but rather an industry wide one.

I actually wrote a couple of articles on this when all the Visa/AVS stuff happened not sure if you have already seen them or not but just in case you havent you can find them here:

Also, it might be worth noting that, almost every other industry worldwide has some sort of 'standards' which must be adhered too unfortunately this is not true for those of us whom choose to make our living online so perhaps setting up some form of industry standard may be the way forward my personal view is that it is better we set these standards ourselves than let the governments force them on us again this was touched briefly upon in another article located here:

    A good topic BTW :groovy:
