OMG the Moderator makes a post?!?!

Just wanted to point out to you guys - some of whom prolly won't read this because they come, register, post, and disappear forever - that there is a spam forum located directly below this one on the forum list!
So though your spamvertisements might be traffic-related... they're still spam.
Spam is for skillets and spam forums.
Don't make me get all deletin' up in here! :cop:

Yes, I prowl this forum almost daily, but dont understand why its so quiet. Do all gay webmasters think they know it all and dont need lame forums to learn anything new?

Wake up and smell the grass guys, things are a changing in this little corner of the world, and you might think you're onto a winner moving from AVS to TGP or paysite, but you're gonna be in for a roller coaster of a year as more and more newbies crop up with new and fresh ideas for your stale ways of making a buck.

On top of that, the paysites are getting more and more outrageous, leaving little room for us small guys further down the foodchain.

And on top of that, becuase the "straight" market is also dwindling, they are starting to come over to our side of the fence looking for fresh pastures.

AVS is truly dead, almost buried. My 2000+ sites were making me about 8k a month last year this year with more work, more material, they are just about scrapping even.

TGPs are still just about doing okay, but they are starting to faulter. The web is a wash with free material, as good, or even better, than can be found on many paysites.

So come on guys, get your fingers out of your butts and start posting, start sharing, before you're all alone crying with your bank managers.

I don't think most gay webmasters realize there is a forum just for us. I deal with a lot of webmasters who do gay porn star sites and I don't think one has ever known about this board (or others, either).

I try to get the word out but when I made post on one board, all they could do was laugh at the name ... gay WIDE webmasters .. the wide-open anal jokes just were over the top

AVS is only dead if you have been relying on sales of the actual pass themselves.

Think differently about AVS - they are far from dead.

Forget about the sales of the actual pass generating your income and use your AVS traffic from within your members areas to push your upsells..

AVS traffic is EXCELLENT having already proven to be willing to whip out their creditcards for something they like.

Most people see AVS as building one site, submitting to one AVS and then selling passes to that site.. I agree that method is dead.. My pal Jason has worked AVS in a totally different way and he doesnt care much about sales to the pass itself - each AVS site he makes gets submitted to dozens of different AVSs and he then makes his bucks from the traffic they provide to his members area.

Have an open mind and prepare to forget what you think you know about AVS and take a look over his resource site at LearningAVS.com - Im sure you will find it very useful and also be surprised...

The same can also be said for TGP submissions.

Personally i never try to sell ANYTHING on galleries that i submit instead, i use the huge influx of traffic and drive it to a site where i can be more... how can i put it... scrupulous with the surfer without having to worry about rules from the TGP owner

    Lee

Howdy Lee, I know you've been asking me to come on over here for awhile, so here I am.

Had to reply, since Russ was nice enough to plug LearningAvs, thanx Russ.

I totally agree with Lee in gaining the traffic from tgps and linklists to use it better then just sending it off to your sponsors.
Its a great way to get the surfers to where you want them to go.

One thing Id like to know is where do I find this. gay porn star sites, Ive looked for awhile but can never seem to find sponsors that have this sort of site to upsell, and also where to get the content from for this niche. Any help would be appreciated.

    See you all round

They aren't sponsor sites, they are sites done by the real gay porn stars.

Very few have affiliate programs as I honestly don't think they're even aware they exist. You can check out some of the sites at gay porn star top list and gay male porn stars webring.

I'm going to bring this up to a few of them and see what they have to say.

Actually on the subject of 'gay pornstar' sites

If anyone wants to have one or two of them shoot an email across to me about doing some possible business it would be appreciated

    Regards,

    Lee

I know many of them -- what type of 'business' are we talking about?

Echoing what Lee said, that's really the only justification I've found so far for TGPs.
I simply don't have the time, energy... or bandwidth for that matter... to submit TGPs to a degree that would be justified given their usual clickthru and conversion ratios.

I do, however, have plenty of time to build a free site that has its own content and at which users are exposed many many times to my sponsors, my clients, and my pay sites.

Clickthrus from the thumbnail galleries are low... 5-10% or so. But of that 5-10%, the vast majority bookmark my free site and come back again and again and again. Each time they come back, they see my banners and are given many a chance to pull out that credit card. And a great many do.

They key to the success of this free site is its ample content. It has its own gallery section (my own galleries using my own or sponsor content, not TGP), reviews, articles, forums, PPV theatre, porn star profiles, on and on.

I troll boards like a fiend - not spamming this site but finding out who people are talking about and who they're interested in. What movies and studios they like. What models they like. What kinda porn they're after. And I write articles and reviews and feature models/movies/sites accordingly. And sponsor ads are all placed strategically - ad for the PPV theatre page of the movie reviewed or a movie starring the model in the profile, for example.

And the reviews and articles make for excellent search engine traffic, as well.
My #1 referring site? Google. Tens of thousands of visits via Google/month.
Discussion boards are also a huge traffic source as some random visitor will post links to my sites/reviews/model profile on these boards and in flow the people. And they stay.
It takes work... building a site from scratch like this and keeping it populated. I update it several times a day with new model profiles/galleries/reviews. But I'll tone down all the updates in a month or 2, by which point so many people will have bookmarked it that return visits alone should account for thousands of visits/day (ideally) and it'll have picked up so much inertia from these first few months that it has enough of its own momentum to keep a steadily heavy influx of traffic. And any promotion I do at that point is icing on the cake, so to speak.

It's awesome. And what's crazy is I have a ton of fun doing it. It's so nice when you're an outsourced guy like me to create something from scratch on your own, having free reign to do what I do without limitations imposed by client demands or specifications. Take right now, for instance... 1am and working on this site and perfectly happy doing it. And the clients benefit from it as well, as it funnels traffic and members and search engine placement to them. win win!

But but but they all pretty much already have paysites

A couple don't, but either they don't have the content needed or aren't that popular ..... but I'll mention it

    Exactly

Why re-invent the wheel when we can just make it work a lot better

Most of them choose webmasters who can design. And, that's it. The sites have nothing about 18 USC 2257, several are misleading (one was listed at $2.99 but said nothing about it being $49.95 after that until you actually got to the checkout page), virtually none have affiliate programs, etc.

I've helped several get their sites in full legal working order (one I was a HUGE fan of, too!) but so many are just clueless.

I think a big reason most have sites is just to spam the fact they escort.
