    It's a forum..let's FORUM

Cannot believe that it's so damn quiet in here! I mean, wtf..let's see some action.

I'll kick something off. When you are on other message boards, and you see a thread where the "juveniles" take over and get into one of their many "spirited" fights using such phrases as "You fag!" or "go to hell you fudgepacker", how do you feel?

The threads USUALLY have nothing at all to do with the issues of "homosexuality". Just seems to be a very common response that is used. If you disagree with someone, you call them a FAG!

Be honest..do you just shrug and move on..or does it piss you off?

There are a lot of wankers in this business that do not realise it IS a business we are in. I tend to ignore those posts all together!

    i personally don't like fags...but that's just me

seriously though...it strikes a nerve...but i normally it's just a derogatory term used by straight people towards other straight people. when it's used towards someone that is gay... i usually just say something witty and funny. Personally, i feel it's never good to become defensive. It's not like you're going to change their mind anyway. Just better to let them know in a round about way...that it's not appropriate.

Oh come on now..everyone knows how sensitive you are.

Guys, this dude will throw his keyboard at his monitor if you disagree with him!
And when he sees someone other than a gay man use the word "FAG"..he'll hunt them down so he can bitch slap 'em!

Yeah, I know what you mean.
I remember one time, there was some intense thread about something inane. I put in my 2 cents, and without hesitation, someone replies "What are you..a fag or something?"

I replied "Yes I am..and you're looking mighty good to me"!

He never ever replied to that.

Mansized of course he wasn't going to respond... you probably caught him totally off guard.

When I see it that in posts it does strike a cord. It just goes to show you how much farther we have to go in society. It infuriates me sometimes and others it just rolls off my back, I don't know why.

What does get me is when you have a group of straight people who say they are tolerant and in the next moment are calling someone a fag or the such. Then they look at you as if saying, what did I do wrong. THAT PISSES ME OFF TO NO END!

In real time, I had an incident in the video store once. There was a group of kids, Seniors in HS I'd say, who were going around looking at movies. Each time they came up to a movie that was bad, one of the would say Oh that's gay. Well after about the 5th time I heard it I approached them and gave them a talk on the difference between the word bad and gay. They were not synonymous. I even went as far as to tell them that if they didn’t open their minds they will find themselves in a trouble one day – that the world was big and that they may find themselves in a position where words and attitudes like that will bring them harm. For those brief moments, not one of them joked, jibed or giggled. They seemed to listen. I’m sure I was the point of a hearty laugh afterwards, but I had my say. Two of the young people actually apologized because they didn’t realize that they were being offensive. I can only hope it was sincere.

Well there’s one of my stories ; ) I’m sure we all have our online and offline tales to tell. I’d love to hear other opinions as well. Not just online, but in real time as well.

    Back to the salt mine!

HAHAHAH I've been asking that same question since 1998.

You wouldn't believe the number of unique visits these forums get a day by the number of posts. We still have a great number of people who are afraid to post because they are afraid to come out or be deemed "gay". Darren and I talked about this on his Homophobia show a week or two ago. It's amazing how much fear there still is (even HERE where no one judges or cares useless you call us fags!)

    Hi ya Gary-Alan,

To be truthfull, my jaw kinda dropped when you said they were quiet and listened to you. That even two of them actually apologized to you.
I don't know if I'm jaded, or your situtation IS an exception to the rule..BUT..what *I* would have expected if *I* had tried to do what you did was at the LEAST a comment like "Fuck off fag!" or at the worst, a punch in the nose. Kids in high school SEEM to be some of the worst gay bashers around (and in college).

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad it turned out the way it did. I'm just pleasantly suprised that it did!

This forum has been around since 1998? Wow! I've been on the net since 1996, and to be honest, I didn't even know it existed until I saw a mesage over on GFY.

Speaking of GFY, I'm TRULY amazed at the number of posts there were in this thread about Cruiser Boys Logo at the top of the page on GFY. (no..this is not a spam or an invitation to do so. grin) But fully 80% or more of the posts in this thread (and I'm talking about like at least 50 posts) were all demanding that Lensman take the logo off..it was "making me sick".."people look over my shoulder and think I'm looking at gay porn!"..etc etc.

I thought that at least ONE place where homophobia would not be so rampant would be in a place where ADULT (double meaning here) webmasters met and posted about their business, interests, etc.

*IF* it's true that people who are INTENSELY homophobic are having problems with their sexual feelings, then there are a lot of closet cases over there!!! ;-) Now I wait to see if anyone flames this post!

haha, yeah, that's definately me - NOT!!!

But seriously, I like your response "Yes I am..and you're looking mighty good to me"! That just throws it right back in their face...if they know they are not upsetting you then they just lost their only weapon.

Gary-Alan, funny what you say about the number of people acting as voyeurs to this board, some people need to accept their sexuality in public...hopefully more will and the world will be a much more gay (happy) place.

    Cheers,

    Luke

LOL You've never met me, Mansize. I think most people who have would say I can be rather formidable in size and speech when I need to be. And this was one of those days.

Yep, this site has been around since 1998. I started promoting it in 1999 when I left YNOT. Since I used to work for other online companies I never had the time to promote it much as I wanted to.

But now, it's a different story

    Regards,
    Gary-Alan

Well, I thought maybe it was something like "Walk softly and carry a BIG stick!" grin
