When You Hear 'Gay Market' .....

Do you think of guys or gals?

I have to admit the first thing i think of is men however it strikes me that there are no sites catering to gay women on the web, by that i mean websites that have 'real' lesbians on them not straight guy 'lipstick' lesbians.

Anyone else find it odd how the gay market is primarily dominated by gay male sites instead of gay female sites?

    Your thoughts on this?

    Regards,

    Lee

Actually, there were/are some lesbians trying to market lesbian sites for lesbian women. I'm not sure how active it is, as an email I sent to the email addy at Cyberdykes came back as undeliverable. Cyber Dykes

There are several active sites listed there.

It looks to be a 'private' avs approach to getting lesbian porn onto the net.

But you are right, gay market usually means male gay. Even "lesbian" sets are listed under "straight" content and they certainly don't have the look of lesbian women. Finding content that "fits" true lesbian porn imagery would pretty much require shooting one's own content... in order to get more passion, wipe out the high heels, shorten the nails, get some "butchy" looking women involved, etc. It'd require the same sort of content and marketing as building the porn for women's sites, with women images of course. I'd love to build a site or two like that if the content and market was out there.

    Bec,

I agree with you on the content would need to be shot exclusively i think the state of the industry right now would dictate that as many webmasters beleive that the lesbian content currently in use is 'true' lesbian content

The gay womens market i would think for the right site could generate a lot of income however, from past conversations both Gary and Myself have had with other companies on this topic all seem to end with the statement 'lesbians dont spend money on porn' and, not being a lesbian myself i cant really prove or, in this case, disprove those statements

What i do know though is that a lot of my lesbian friends do actively buy sex toys and videos to spice up their sex lives so i cant see them buying porn sites differing in any way to that.

Who knows we may see a company start a true lesbian site in the near future because of this very thread :groovy:

    Regards,

    Lee

Ya know, normally I think of men where I hear that term used. I guess I just expected the girls to be out buying flannel shirts and budwiser or something. For that I'm sorry! (You can spank me if you want too!)

When I worked in video distribution we tried to release a lesbian movie, and I gave a copy to a lesbain friend of mine. LOL Lordy, I thought she was going to beat me up or something. Then it dawned on me, 95% of porn is for men, not girls. She told me that she wishes that there where sites and movies that she could buy that where made for true lesbians. I guess kind of like the adult LifeTime Network.

    Porn For Women, By Women...

when i was younger, gay was used as an adjective towards men or women. these days, it almost always only refers to men. weird.

i've been searching for a lesbian - or better still, lesbian reality - site to promote. it's been very frustrating. who wants to see straight porn girls pretending or giving it token effort? where's the passion and the excitement there?

i used to date some gorgeous women when i was single. why can't we have women like that on sites? or like the girls in on our backs (is that magazine still around?) why does it have to be the same old porn girls? or a site with girls like this CUTE baby butch who lives near me. she looks like an androgynous rocker guy - almost! she could seduce a new "straight" chick every week.

I think the problem is that porn for women is still considered a small niche, so porn aimed primarily at gay women would be considered an extreme niche. Nobody's done the groundwork, so few people are willing to actually take the risk in an attempt to start a site like that.

Much like that old standby of the gay-male community, the Bath House. There's about 10 here in Toronto alone, but gay women have to settle for the odd "women's night" twice a year at one of them.

It could be that nobody has mined those uncharted waters, or it could be that there's just not enough of a fan base to make it profitable. Let's hope somebody finds out... the more the merrier, I say.

yes, but it could easily turn out that straight men want to see actual lesbians. i think that at least some straight men are fascinated by the "lesbian world". they sure seem to be when you talk with them.

and although there are a lot less lesbians than straight women, the same applies to gay men and look how strong the entire gay market is on the web. btw, i know more lesbians who enjoy porn than straight women.

Wondering if that's because we deal with our sexuality on a different level all the time?

    Basschick, Bec...

Without meaning to sound offensive (as its not meant to be) are there many other lesbian webmasters/mistresses that you two know of?

To be perfectly honest its not something i have really thought about until this thread and well, i can only think of two other women in the adult industry one of which is our very own Rainey and the other is Aly from Python.

    LOL Basschick.

I lied i thought of one other Holly from Direct Studs too.

Im sure there has to be more gay women in the industry though, could this be a possible reason for the lack o real lesbian sites you think? Becasue the women working in the industry who are openly 'out' (for want of a better word) arent well know except for a small minority?
