Well, funnily enough... When I hear 'Gay Market' I generally only consider the male market. While there is money to be made in the lesbian marketplace, it requires an awful lot more to achieve an awful lot less. So, unless one's doing it strictly for personal satisfaction, as opposed to a thicker profit margin, it doesn't really add up to focus on the lesbian marketplace if you're already doing well elsewhere. Don't get me wrong, my hat's off to those that are successful with the womens' marketplaces; they're dramatically expanding, but they do require very special attention to be at all successful. :construct

Aly Python - while what you say is true, i still think that the straight male market love a real lesbian site. aim it at lesbians, but be willing to sell to the straight market. i wonder if there is a way to test this theory with less than an entire reality site of content...

i'd say 80% of the straight men i know are very titillated by the idea of seeing genuine lesbian sex.

this is a very very interesting topic, I have always believed the niche you can sell the best is the one you are truely interested in. I think you would be able to get away with using amateur single girl and amateur lesbian content for it too, that type of content looks like the stuff my lesbian friends would enjoy. Plus I bet if you put your heart into it you would get amazing retention too.

lesbian / gay is not a niche - its a market. Marketing to lesbians is different than marketing lesbians to str8 men who have fantasies. Should really make that distinction I feel.

To make a true lesbian site, it has to be geared towards lesbian (gay) women and not just men who want to peek into a world that few dare to tread.

As far as 3somes - SheDevil who is my fiance is a lesbian, and I respect that part of her that when two girls get together they do it because they hate "cock" and its not appropriate (*much less anything that I would be interested in - been in this industry so long that now it doesnt matter whats between anyones legs I look for the soul of a person.)

for example, gay interracial is a niche but gay is the market. you can't market to ALL lesbians any more than to all gay men because different people have different tastes.

First of all I should make clear that I am a lesbian who does watch some porn, but find very little that I actually like, so a site that attracts me would be great.

There is a huge difference between gay men and lesbians... this being that coming out of the closet and how society treats us in general is a totally different experience. Gay men will get bullied and such, but once in a gay community, how do you say... all's well that ends well. Lesbians like myself have a slightly different problem, although it includes straight men as well. First of all it must be realised that lesbians want nothing to do with guys sexually... however, straight guys (not all) want everything to do with a lesbian. So it makes me not want to come out, knowing that men will be on my ass even more! It is why when guys try to flirt with me, I'll never mention that I'm lesbian... only that I have a fiance.

If someone is to create a lesbian site it MUST be made by lesbians for lesbians. Sorry to stab any male in the back, (even some straight women) but I doubt that anyone would be able to understand what makes a lesbian tick better than another lesbian. And I think Aly would agree with me on that matter. And just incase us gay women weren't any more difficult to figure out as a group - we all have different prferences.

The bottom line here is that there is nothing purely lesbian anywhere to be found, or not that I have found. There are always straight men to speak of; even at the dyke march in TO there were straight men with video cameras ready to jerk off at the naked women walking down the street. It can really be discusting. It's really depressing sometimes, and I feel (maybe just hope) it will be a couple of years if not more before the lesbian comunity grows stronger and we are large enough to fight for our own things, just as gay men have done.
