Clicks to sponsor site vs Conversions

    Hi ...

Got a question. What, on average, do you all expect to see as a ratio for an actual conversion from clicks that do go to the sponsor from a tgp posted gallery? We're getting a 1:40 click through and zip sales.

I've always viewed TGPs as a matter of quantity over quality... low conversions countered with the prospect for mass amounts of traffic.

    *shrugs*

I can't say, though, that I've ever really put much weight behind TGPs as my early experiences with them didn't produce a whole helluva lot. I do promote one site through TGPs - a free site. In the hopes that surfers looking for free porn (as they do on TGPs) will recognize another opportunity for free porn and bookmark me/become regular visitors to my site. Just gotta be willing and able to sacrifice the bandwidth an effort towards those aims.

I can't help but get the feeling, though, that so many TGP surfers are so conditioned to peruse the free porn in the places they're used to having it brought to them (the particular galleries they frequent) and avoid what they know ends in a request for $$ that the conversion ratio of TGPs is very low.

Some others here might have had a totally different experience with them, though.

I agree with you BD - TGPs are scenarios of quantity verses quality and the conversion factors are high. I have done the same thing with free sites hoping that the traffic can be filtered down to people who are willing to buy - or to manipulate the traffic in order to get a new surfer that may be willing to buy.

LdyLnWolf1, a 1:40 click through ratio is nice. But I wouldn't expect that traffic to convert at less than 1:4000. The conditioning of the typical TGP surfer is to get as much as possible for free. It's those who get caught in the TGP cycle who don't know the "free for all" scenario that we hope to convert from galleries. NOW that said, many of the webmasters who own the actual tgp do a lot to convert that traffic before you get it. So you need to consider that there is a layer of filtering already going on before you get that surfer.

I approach it with a "quantity and testing" method. There are TGPs out there that send 'convertable' traffic. But it's a matter of testing them out one at a time to see exactly which work or not. I started out with list of 35 tgps I submitted to. After testing, I only submit to 5. And even then I'm playing the quantity game, but I know it will work eventually. I know a good deal of webmaster who only submit galleries for a living. And they did the same thing I did. Test and pray. Test and pray. And their list of submission sites is as small as mine.

    My two cents...

    Regards,
    Gary-Alan

I should clarify that when I say "low" in reference to "conversions"... i'm referring to the sales. Not the ratio. hehe. Otherwise I'd probably sound really confusing or stupid

Gary-Alan, most of my gallery traffic is converting at 1:250, more or less. there are a couple sponsors doing worse, in the 1:800 class, but only one is doing worse than 1:1000.

i am only seeing a 5 - 7% ctr lately, though. used to see 10%. ah, well...

unfortunately, tgp traffic is known as not being quality and over the last year or two most would say it is getting less and less quality. I think the best thing with TGP traffic is offering surfers something they have not seen before. Make sure your gallery designs are funky and fresh, try to push smaller sponsors which are not overused and try to use your content in a creative way like make the thumbs only a small part of the big picture, not just a scaled down version. If you tease people with a bit of interesting cropping then they will stay at your gallery for a bit longer and are more likely to click thru to your sponsor.

    cheers,

    Luke

wow, i don't tease them at all. i usually make my best sales with at least some hardcore pics (depending on the niche).

i keep the page layout simple and clean, with big text links in the center where they eye will fall.
