WTF? Women's Erotica - The Next Big Craze?

After looking at some of the sales figures on Stud Money sites and, seeing the type of surfer we have joining our site i figured it would be a good idea to write a brief article about the 4women market. The reason for this is simply that even though the Stud Money sites are primarily geared towards gay males we do have a good amount of Female surfers joining the site. This got me into thinking on how underdeveloped the current 4women market is so far as the sites that are being offered and well... here is the article

Women's Erotica - The Next Big Craze?

Over the last few years adult sponsors have followed the same trends as one another almost instantly copying the sites launched by their competitors at least, as far as the straight and gay side of the industry goes as far as men are concerned however, there is still a vast range of niches left to be explored and, surprisingly enough, one of these niches is that of the women's erotica niche.

    Women's Erotica - Defining A 4Women Site.

Women's erotica despite what many webmasters will tell you is completely different from any other type of marketing you have done for a demographic in fact, you could say the women's erotica market is truly unique in many ways. For a start, women know what they want before they even hit a paysite, usually (although not all the time) females surfing for online erotica will be interested in a range of things including (but not limited too) erotic stories, softcore male images, hardcore pictures where the woman is receiving oral sex instead of giving it, sex toys, reviews and well, things that perhaps you wouldn't even consider marketing to a straight male surfer such as games and ezines as well as communities and personals. So what should you do to make a great pay site featuring women's erotica? Throw all of these items in and that's it?

Women's Pay Sites - Putting Them Together.

Unfortunately, being able to find all of the items mentioned in the paragraph above is actually a lot harder than you may think, to start with, many webmasters have the pre-conceived notion that, because women are looking for 'male pictures' they can simply throw up some gay male solo content and be done with it however, this is not the case at all, despite what you may think there is a difference between solo gay male content and solo for women male content. This is where the difficulties more often than not arise.

    Content - Women's Erotica.

To date there are very few erotic content providers in the adult industry that are catering to the women's erotica market, in fact, the only content provider whom I constantly see mentioned on resource site forums that come recommended by the web mistresses working the 4women erotica niche would be http://www.ounique.com. It would seem that females looking for online erotica do not always want to see hardcore content just as, they do not always want to see softcore images of guys with flaccid penises, take a look at the content made available for this rather unique niche and see for yourself.

    Women's Erotica - An Overview.

In this article we have touched on the simplistic steps of starting to gather the information you will need as a webmaster to work the for women market however, ultimately, there is so much more you need to know, one thing is certain though, with the VERY limited amount of paysites made available to female surfers by the large affiliate programs, the first program to actually put some time and effort into creating a selection of half decent women's erotica paysites will attract a large base of adult female traffic and, by doing so, will increase the exposure that this often overlooked market so desperately needs.

    Article written by Lee.
I would love to hear any feedback you have on this article as its not really something i have focused on before however, i can see the huge potential in this market especially when confronted with the sales figures ive been looking at over the last few days.

    Regards,

    Lee

I would love to hear from the Webmistresses on this... especially if this is "Next Big Craze?" or an area that has been trying to find it's footing for a while now?

    Hi there, new here.
Lee pointed out this thread to me.

The points he makes in his article are all salient.

In terms of it being "the next big thing", this has been said a number of times in the last few years, but the thing that stops it being serioiusly adopted is widespread stereotypes about hetero women, mainly that a. they aren't visual and don't like porn, and b. they won't buy it.

The other thing, as Lee said, is that most webmasters have no idea how to market to women. They put up some pics with a guy holding his butt open or shoving a dildo up his ass, add a banner, and then, when they get no sales, say its a dud market.

I've been doing this for four years. It's a lovely market, tricky but worthwhile. Continuing misinformation has been good to me, really LOL But now I've got a paysite to promote and a need for affiliates, so the more people who know about this market and For The Girls, the better

OK, so this turned into spam.

Here's an article I wrote for YNOT on the topic.

Here's my tutorial on making websites for women

Here's a humor piece I wrote about what women really think when they see mainstream porn

OH FOR F SAKE... you put up a post and expect everyone to find it in 2 hours LMFAO

Okay my 2 cents...I rarely sell naked men... they attract attention but its the promise of more then limp dicks that make the sale. Women might look for limp dick stud pictures on the net (but they wont pay for them unless they are aged 17 and its their first credit card). Do I have stats on that? no. I do have many women who contact me and say that they can see naked guys anywhere and for free and they are glad they found a site that has actual content in it.

I dont have the energy to go on and on about this market LOL and I find it kind of like saying COME ONE COME ALL AND TAKE A BITE OUT OF MY PROFIT.

I have written for klixxx and many other resource sites, so has Karen. You can read any of those articles if your interested in the niche.

Now since I am commenting on a gay resource site... I think its certainly worth a go for all you gay men to be putting money bar links or small banners giving women a peak at what is available for them. Infact heres a nice little number for ya. I estimate that more then 65% of the names/credit card information used on my couples sex site are male names. I market to men and women on that site so I am not that surprised. 4womenavs? I estimated more like 75% were male names.

But does this mean they are gay? OR could it mean that women use their partners credit cards? I think thats just as likely. I think tons of sales made at Karas Links or any other hardcore or even fetish site are WOMEN. Stats might not reveal that because alot of couples share one card.

I cannot tell you how many times I have been emailed from a male looking email... bob.brown@internet.com and its really his wife. I cant tell you how many times I have wondered if that male looking login and pass was merely a woman using her partners name for a pass.

Sort of shakes the foundation on your stats doesnt it?

We've beem studying the 4women market, as you know from the lesbian market thread ... it has been tough to find good content. We did register with the 4womenAVS but understand they are having a billing problem, so haven't put up a site yet with it. Right now we aren't in a position to launch a full fledged paysite, but have hopes of eventually doing so.

I asked about content on another site, and did get a number of women in this marketing field recommending skan-media.

I had read those articles Karen ... and they're nestled into my fav links! Excellent info!

lee, most of the ounique content for women shows me that greg doesn't really have any idea what women want to see. they do have some good sets, though.

the women i know who surf porn are either into the bdsm lifestyle or else likes prettier pics for their porn. both are heavily into fantasy, including stories - not just pics of penises in mouths or vaginas. women also like romance or adventure in their erotica.

i made a "how to" sex site for a client once. finding pics of kissing or hand-holding was next to impossible. finding pics of people working up to sex - good luck! and almost every toy pic you can buy is bullshit - no clitoral stimulation, just work the toy in and out. so for women, you'd need pics of women doing things they would actually get something out of. most straight pics taken for men ignore that aspect entirely.

and finding pics of men who get naked slowly instead of just whipping off their clothes is also a chore. the ones i find are few and far between, and i'm always on the lookout.

i think womens' erotica is a hot area that is not well represented. there are female and male buyers (both straight and gay) who would join such a site if only a nice one were around.

    i have some...

well, in the few seconds i read through this, i thought of some ideas. maybe it is because oprah is on, but when i think of female sexuality mixed with being horny and having a credit card, I would think the big market (as with television) would be house wives/work at home moms. We all know they LOVE reading those damn romance novels, so a model/paysite operator would probably do well to read a few of these and study up on the covers. The keyword is sensual, not sexual. tall dark and handsome brooding men in outdoor poses? How about a site of mini romance novels (novellas?) with a photoshoot that matches each story? Other than that I can only think of interactive things for it, like "choose the topic of our next novel" or "choose the next man featured in a novel", "be our next author contest" etc to keep women comming back and active in the site. these are probably dumb ideas but what do ya expect in 5 minutes.

    oh..

by the way, there are a ton of photosets out there on gay sites that would appeal to women, with the right layout/design and story. cute younger guys can go into first time stories (you'd be surprised what common cords you can find in women about their first time stories), or mrs robinson type things. then there are military men, men in any uniform for that matter, exotic men for "swept away on vacation" stories etc, if u are good at comming up with stories that would appeal to women, you can find the content to back it up, try it in this order, not find content for women then build around it.

DigitalJay, i'd be interested in seeing some non-ounique sets that you think would be of interest to women. i buy male content from over 15 providers and have shopped for content at more like 40 and i don't see much.

years ago, when male strippers were big in l.a. i was managing a club that had them in one night a week. we were trying to decide if our guys should go nude, so i visited several other clubs with strippers to check out what they did. only one had the guys get naked, and the women in the bathroom were always talking about how they wished the guys "would leave something to the imagination".

i also checked out chippendales twice. not only do they not get nude, but every set had a fantasy theme. then where female strippers get naked in their last number, chippendales guys sold kisses. and where men would grope and otherwise disrespect women whenever contact of that sort was allowed, most of the ladies would leave the guys' crotches alone.

i did massive research on non webmaster boards, magazines and books. women are not as visual and the ones who were more visually stimulated only like 10% found simply looking at a penis arousing.

i don't think most webmasters or photographers really take this stuff into account.

Actually, you just wrote out a lot of what has been running through my mind about the kind of content ... I also think the sensual is what needs addressed, and yes, the romance books are a very good background "study" in what I think the women would find appealing. Story based erotica with appropriate photo content ... things that play to the tease and fantasy.

somewhere on jane's, there is a site with all exclusive content with full-on historical costumes and plots. one i remember is they had a pirate set. every single shoot looked like one of those harlequin historicals.

i was unable to find it again, but i didn't look very hard either. maybe someone more motivated can dig it up.

did you know that series romance novels are the best selling book niche?
