    Recip Grab Problem

    Hey guys...

Anyone been to sites where you try to pick up an animated gif and the only "save as" option you get when the save box opens is for a .bmp?

And no, I don't have "use comperessed graphics" set. I'm able to get what I need 99% of the time in the correct format. We got rejected for link list inclussion by Penisbot because I couldn't get their dang animated gif recip ... so used a text link instead. I've also had this problem on another site as well.

Don't quote me on this... but I think this is a cache problem. Clear you browser cache and try again... you may have to restart your browser as well.

Let me know if this works.

Ok... I just went to Penisbot and tried to grab a recip with IE... it didn't work... hmmm. I never thought I would say this to anyone... ever! Use Netscape. The "copy image" function works fine on Penisbot. Maybe this is an anti-microsoft statement from Penisbot.

    Mozilla Firebird works fine, too.

    LdyLnWolf1,

As Lee mentioned I have the same issue. It has to be a cache issue but I still haven't figured it out. I can save files when I start IE but after a while it start doing bmp.

One method I use, if it's a case that I'm in the middle too many things and just can't shut down at that moment, is to email the image to myself. Along with Save this Image is an Email this Image option on the menu. When I do this, I get the original format. It's not the answer to the issue but it is a way around it in a bind.

I need a fix for this too.

    Regards,
    Gary-Alan

    Thanks guys --

I did have several people go and try to get the recip ... and all got the .bmp option only. I finally just made 2 screenshots of the damn thing and made a new gif!

I recently cleared out cache, cookies and temp files, so doubt that's the problem. It's only been a couple of places I've run into this and wondering if it's a site protection script they may be using, or something in their .htacess that is somehow messing up the save.

That's what I thought too, Bec. But to compound my confusion it happened on my own gallery sites, where I know .htaccess isn't there. I dunno. If I do find a permanent solution, I'll let you know.

Here we go for a possible solution..

    1. go to tools dropdown
    2. go to internet options
    3. delete cookies
    4. delete files and make sure you check the offline files and then say ok....

that should do it, but if not then:

    1. go to tools dropdown
    2. go to internet options
    3. click on settings
    4. view objects
    5. delete anything that doesn't say installed

Just tested in on GA's machine and it seems to have worked like a charm

    Regards,

    Lee

would it work to just add the .jpg or .gif
    to the file NAME ??

or would that just make a picture that was
    showing up as (example)

    RedFlower.bmp

    named:
    RedFlower.gif
(by physically typing that in the save as window)

would that then in the hd
    really show up as:
    RedFlower.gif.bmp

    ??

    not sure...

bell, it probably would but if you go to one of the penisbot recip pages http://www.penisbot.com/reciprocal_buttons.html?cid=35 you'll see that when you try to save the button, it comes up as untitled.

i'll stick with netscape to download the graphics ;-)

    netscape sounds easist...

I don't have it on this particular computer...

when the graphics come up untitled - I'd name them what the
source code wanted them called so the site they belonged to
would get a true scan for recip button (by graphic name)

but that's few and far between... still an option though...

but just using netscape would be nice and quick...

I've never had 2 different browsers on on hard drive before...
years ago someon told me they would conflict and cause bookmark
corruptions... so I never installed netsape on any systems
    since...
