NEW YORK (Reuters) - The first defendant to be charged under a federal law that makes it a crime to use misleading Internet addresses to lure children to pornography was sentenced on Thursday to 30 months in prison.

John Zuccarini, a Philadelphia-area native who had eluded authorities for years, had pleaded guilty to misspelling Internet domain names like Disneyland, Britney Spears and Teletubbies to lure children to pornographic Web sites.

Zuccarini was sentenced in Manhattan federal court to violating the Truth in Domain Names Act, a provision of the Amber Alert legislation that went into effect in 2003. He was arrested in a Hollywood, Florida hotel last year after being on the run for several years.

Prosecutors said that Zuccarini admitted that one reason why he registered domain names of Web sites popular with children was because they are more likely than adults to make spelling errors in typing Web site addresses.

They said he earned as much as $1 million a year from the operators of Web sites that advertised pornography.

He previously was sued over 100 times by such organizations as Dow Jones and The National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues for misusing their domain names.
Now personally, whilst i disagree with the way he used those domains i do find the sentence to be a little disturbing especially considering you could quite litrally kill someone and serve less time

Again i think this is going to have yet another negative effect on this industry and i cant help thinking if he wasnt using 'porn' on those domains would the sentence have been as lengthy?
