Did you know that many webmasters fail because they dont understand one simple thing, that their competition (other webmasters) can actually have an adverse effect on their business. Just putting a site online, filling it with content and, adding some marketing isnt enough these days, we are finding more and more that by staying ahead of the game, our business actually grows yet, to stay ahead of the game we HAVE to know hat our competitors are doing.

In the adult industry, thousands of new and improved (sometimes) sites pop up virtually every minute of every day, all of them promosing a proliferation of free porn, low cost memberships and a wide range of other goods and services yet, we tend to overlook some of the most basic of facts whilst we continue to throw these sites online, each page that gets uploaded and published on the web, is potentialy taking traffic and sales away from us. So how can we ensure that our sites are working? Simple, by checking out what our competitors are doing on their sites and, knowing what surfers are currently buying.

For the most part, porn surfers have an incredibly small attention span, actually, i lie, most types of surfer have small attention spans, its usually the first 2-3 seconds of them seeing an ad that makes them decide to click or not, its usually seeing what new features you have on your site that they cant get anywhere else which makes them stay on your site and, ultimately, its how much use the surfer gets out of these features which dictates whether or not they will bookmark your site and return tomorrow.

By actually watching what other affiliates and programs in the adult industry are doing, we can tell what, if anything, we need to add or change on our sites. Constant updates seems to be the main crowd puller these days however, there are a slew of other things we can add to our sites, relatively cheaply or, at no cost to us that can outweigh the benefits of regular updates, whether we own a TGP, Paysite or we're gallery submitters, by offering more than everyone else, we stand a much higher chance at doing what we're supposed to do, make money.

That isnt to say that we all need to run out and find a heap of tools that are going to make our sites stickier, in fact, quite the opposite, usually, adding one or two new features over time, will be more than enough to ensure your sites remain profitable, whether these features be daily or weekly online polls, message boards, chat rooms or even updates, they will help us to make more money for the long term.

That being said, as we live in the technological age, adding features may not be the only way we can increase our profitability, sometimes actually removing them can work to, after all, we've all seen message boards that are dead, they dont get used and, all they are doing is wasting the owners bandwidth and, ultimately money, knowing when to pull a feature on our sites is just as, if not, more important than knowing when to add new ones. If you see that your competition has pulled a specific type of feed, ask yourself why, if you see they have added another type of feed again, ask yourself why. The more you watch what others in the industry are doing and, who they are doing it with, the more you will be able to make solid business decisions that will improve your bottom line - Profit.
