happy 10th anniversary Mac OS X
10 years ago yesterday, Apple released Cheetah, aka, OS X after 6 months of beta testing.
OS X was originally purchased as part of a buyout of NeXT in 1996, a move that not only saw the acquisition of a modern operating system, but also the return of its co-founder, Steve Jobs, to the company.
Since the original OS X release, there have been 56 OS X update releases, the the latest being Mac OS X 10.6.7, which was released just a few days ago. Interestingly enough, OS X has dropped in price over the last 10 years, starting with $129 for the first Cheetah release, to today charging $29 for Snow Leopard (version 10.6).
So happy anniversary OS X
