    Warning Pages on Adult Sites

Some people use these warning pages, and some do not. I have taken it down on my blogs and such that didn't have nude pictures (all of my blogs have no nudes on them because of 2257). I still have it up on my paysite, but it has me wondering. Alot of people don't use them, why not?

dean, there is no law in the u.s. that says you should use a warning page. some traffic is lost by a warning page - try posting a gallery and linking it to the tour and another linked to the warning page and you will see that some people turn away at the warning page who come from your gallery.

there are 4 reasons to have a warning page:

    1. because you legitimately want to let minors and people who arrive at your site by accident know what the content is so they can go elsewhere.

***** the catch here is that unless all your other pages are unavailable through .htaccess, minors and otherscan still get to every other page in your site by accident from search engines. cduniverse does this one right a lot of the time.

    2. because if you ever have legal trouble on your site, showing that you did your best to keep out minors or people who find porn objectionable could help you look well-meaning.

***** once judges and district attorneys get more "internet smarts", this won't work unless you use .htaccess to keep people coming from search egnines away from your tour. cduniverse does this one right a lot of the time.

    3. because a warning page is another page to collect search engine hits.

***** depends on how you would handle text on your warning page and also depends on whether it would send enough traffic to make up for people who you'd lose due to the warning page.

    4. a great place to put recips to link lists and review sites.

***** if you send your affiliate traffic to the actual tour page rather than the warning page, this is a good way to keep recips from damaging the appearance of your tour.

    Heres A Thought

Personally, I think that a Warning Page is just being a good neighbor. Same as the 7-11 covers the Playboys at the register, our company will always give Auntie Edith, a chance to advert her eyes.

If we- as an industry would warning page all our sites and code them as RTA, we'd have more of a chance educating parents how to filter porn.

    Why not a standard page?

    Oh

You can't standardize anything that has no standards.

Where to start? Where to start?

Develope an actual "for the trade" association? A body that could go to the main stream media with our concerns about the misdirection of funds and energy spent on poorly concieved regulations. Why is it the last push of inspections, which haven't netted much more than clerical errors, isn't reported on any TV news program?

Licence adult performers and build a data base?

How hard could it be? We already have a biz model to go by.. the DMV. ID # the actors, and you negate the hassel of stage names, and protect their private information. Shoot .. use the biz model of SAG - they seem able to keep track of the thousands on their Membership Rolls.

Did you know that no 2 actors can be like-named? Sigh .. commen sence.

    I mean come on ...

If humankind has been able to standize a million screws, why can't ANYONE propose a SIMPLE solution, to keep track of our hotties?

    :fucked:

Warning page is a must have for convertions.
If you want to improve your convertions your first step is to create a warning page. Trust me on that.

A good warning system helps prevent users from unknowingly viewing material they deem offensive.

And lets face it, the biggest threat to any adult site are surfers who saw something they didn't want to see. This is what gets the ball rolling.
I post here to whore this sig.

that's simply not so. many programs with generic warning pages or no warning pages have sites that convert like crazy.

not unless you use .htaccess or another system to keep your content pages off the search engines. having a warning page accomplishes nothing if you have 15 pages with hardcore porn on them available to get to from search engines.

I don't use them because they affect search engine rankings in a negative direction, as well, I don't think any judge is going to look favourably on me, or anyone else, because they had a warning page. To me they're kind of like putting up a sign over a loaded gun on a table and the sign says, "Do not pick up this loaded gun and shoot it." Why did you leave a loaded gun on the table within easy access of anyone who wanted to pick it up?

If people were truly interested in preventing people from seeing hardcore content, they wouldn't put up a warning page, they'd put up pages with stars covering genitalia, and they'd have all their hardcore content in their member's area.

Warning pages are an attempt by this industry to have their cake and eat it, too, let's be honest here. If you're so afraid of minors seeing a cock, then don't put one where they can see them.

And that is why I said "good warning system" and not just a generic enter page as the index file. Warning surfers doesn't necessarily have to effect your SE listings either.

I totally agree with you Michael, I don't do warning pages because:
    - there has never been one legal case that has set precedence on warning pages actually being an effective means to protect your site
    - warning pages give users one more chance to not buy your product
    - I always try to chose site domain names that are obviously porn, if you visit a site called RealBareback or OrgyStuds its obvious you are looking for porn

and now that I know it also negatively affects s.e. positioning, its all the more reason to aviod them.

we like our warning pages but then again...

we also put a disclaimer and warning page on all of our videos...

we're more interested in making an attempt to let people know that there is something ahead that might not be suitable for all to see...

I don't know if our warnings affect sales - we've got everything we need already!

I always wondered that too.. most people know see a warning page as an invite to something amazing and handsoff. Its a teaser. Unless you have an extreme religious nut - put them on everything. Hell, I have warning page on my boxers
