Are we a dying breed ?

I was pursuing the forum of some big sites today and I noticed a few announcements that various live cam sites that they carried had closed, that got me thinking that quite a few of the live cam sites have shut down recently, Is it because of lack of members or because the post of production is that much higher that buying/ shooting photosets and pasting them along with a jack off movie? or dont the public want live sites anymore?

Ourselves have seen a slight decline in daily sign ups over the past couple of years but nothing drastic and our chat rooms are as busy as ever.

Any thoughts?

We definitely aren't a dying breed. A lot of sites didn't get in when we did and a lot of the owners of other cam sites jumped in, in hopes of making quick easy money and voyeur cam isn't quick or easy money. It's expensive to run as you know, and it requires a passion for it and patience dealing with the models.

Those that don't have the passion and or patience, won't last. So when the money runs out, they will shut down.

You know as well as I do, most of the other sites never ran their site like a business. They wouldn't pay models or they wouldn't pay their bills, etc. So when they weren't making any quick, easy, cash they shut down.

You've been doing this for 10 years and I've been doing this for 8.5 years. I started right when Big Brother 1 started, I said I want to do that at home, and so I did. A lot of these others just jumped in when it looked popular and easy, and they found out it isn't easy or fast cash.

NO WAY!! Nope, I would rather pay them and they do it from their own home and stream to my servers. Easier to recruit quality models as well, because they can make it a part time job, instead of having to live in someone's home.

Spaeaking as a porn consumer, I've never seen a live cam site worth joining. Everyone I've seen has models that seem to tease forever, never showing their dick or getting off (at least when I'm there). Or they only get naked and hard if you pay some huge amount for a private chat.

If there was a site that followed a regular format where I knew I would see some dick I might join that. I agree with Zac's observation though. Not just because he is my boss, but because I have been around this industry in one way or another for years and I watched the number of "cam sites" go from dozens down to a few TRUE cam house sites. I agree with Jasun's point of view as well (I'm SO agreeable!) that it's the natural cycle of filtering out the weak and "half-ass" sites from the strong and committed. I am aware of the constant changes in technology and how we deliver the product, but I am concerned. I wonder if the staggering influx and sudden death of other sites has effected the internet surfer's perception of us and to what extent?

Anyone who runs a cam site knows just how hard it is to do. Managing 8 out-of-control 18-19 year-old men can be tough... keeping them happy, on camera and away from the clutches of the predators who just want to get their claws into your star models at any cost... your cam site's success hinges on a LOT of things... Models, technology, chance and of course... how your members interact with each other. A single asshole member can ruin the experience for everyone else.

Finding good cam performers (who can also get along with the other guys, be trained to clean up their messes in the kitchen and show up on time) can be hard.

Cam sites are still relatively new things.. yeah.. some have been around for 10 years but it's only recently that we've been allowed to stream high-quality sound and full-motion video. It's going to get tougher for us all to stay on top of the game... we're going to have to adapt.

but no.. I think that the cream will rise to the top.. people will always crave a connection with models... cam sites aren't going anywhere for a long time.

There are days when I just look at this group of boys and suddenly get the urge to pull out the rest of my hair! It's hard to keep all the members satisfied, the boys happy and still keep pushing for a better site. You can't ever sit back and think you've reached the top because there is always one more rung on the ladder that you still have to climb and if you don't, someone else will beat you to it!
If there is one thing I would tell anyone looking to start a cam house it would be don't expect quick or easy money. Be prepared to be in it for the long haul or don't get in at all.
