Server Market Up By ~18%
IDC released figures this week saying that revenue in the worldwide server market increased 17.9% on a yearly basis, taking it to $13.2 billion in the second quarter of 2011 (2Q11).
The stats revealed that server revenues continue to grow strong in all three classifications: volume, midrange enterprise, and high-end enterprise. They also said that HP and IBM tied for market position, both holding about 30% of the worldwide server market.
Linux and Windows server demands were both up, with Linux increasing its revenue by 47.5% and Windows server revenues up by 12.4%. Demand was also up on non-x86 servers (RISC, EPIC and CISC) by 23.3%, while Unix servers grew by a lackluster 1.5%.
