Hey guys,
Barry Schwartz reports that Google is telling toolbar users that the PageRank displayed is for "entertainment purposes only" and is not the same PageRank that it uses in its algorithm.

Well if thats true.. then the Google toolbar just became worthless and its time to uninstall it i guess.

Well, in recent months, for a pretty good keyword phrase, I moved from nowhere to be found to #23 to #18 to #12 to #9 and my PageRank is still 1/10.
Go figure.

Don't forget that you can also use it to see how many and what backward links the page has.... I use the toolbar all the time.
Remember your rank also depends on what other content is out there.
I rank number one if you type in "Johnny Hazzard", and my PR is 3.
On "discount cigarettes" I am ranked 43, but that page's PR is 5.
Takeaway: Pick your fights.

Steve, thats true but again, you can check your backlinks using google.com
I just dont see the need for having the toolbar installed to do that stuff when its accessible via there engine anyway.
Of course, thats just my opinion on it

Google.
She can be a harsh mistress.
Apparently the GoogleGuy posted to the original blog entry and a few boards, saying that this wasn't so.
Whatever -- I like good Page Rank but I try not to be a slave to it...![]()
My PR is 4 but my search terms are sandboxed since the last update so go figure!
I like the "vote for this page" feature on the toolbar. Think that has any significance?
As far as Google backlinks go, we all know that they are the least accurate of the search engines. Going to Yahoo gets the most accurate count, and list, of backlinks.
It's all psychological warfair between Google and the SEO people. They are making it very difficult to know what they're up to so that the SEO people will just give up, which so many have. IMHO
I mainly use the toolbar for a quick search - it makes the search open in a new window. As far as the little "extras", I rarely pay any attention to them. Same as Alexa, it helps me to find some interesting sites![]()
Toolbar takes up too much space in my browswer window.
I installed it on a coworkers computer and jump on to his machine now and then when I wanna check it. Cuz I'm an asshole like that.![]()
