How Do You Feel About Adult Sponsors With More Than One Product?

For example, if an affiliate program has paysites, non-adult sites, herbal products, VOD / PPV, DVD Stores, Software products etc, etc.

Should affiliate programs in the adult industry (or mainstream for that matter) stick to what they know best?

For me im kind of 50-50 for and against affiliate programs expanding into other areas.

Im for it because it can certainly help us make more money as webmasters but i against it because the chances of an affiiate program KNOWING how to market all of the products it offers effectively is slim.

Your thoughts on this?

Personally, I wouldn't want a mainstream site being associated with the adult industry at all, and that includes doing business with them in any sort of affiliate manner, no matter what products they're peddling.

There is not now, nor will there ever be, an adult affiliate program (even if it's attempting to cross over) that can compete with ANY of the mainstream advertising companies.

Why on earth would I choose to have my mainstream site do business with "Phil Mahgroin's Boner Pop'in Affiliate Opportunities", even if it does push software and the like, instead of BurstMedia or DoubleClick?

The answer is, I wouldn't.....

You know what they say, "Jack of all trades, master of none." And I think that really applies to our business. The adult business has diversified so much that even marketing twinks is vastly different from bears. Some of the same principles apply, but there are big differences.

I've never been able to sell goods very well on my sites, and that's probably because selling penis enlargemnet pills is probably pretty different from selling pictures or VOD.

I think that on the one hand it's probably a good idea to diversify a bit. If the FDA says "no more penis pills" and that's your whole business, you're fucked. But if you're running a few paysites, too, then maybe you can recover a little more easily. But I think if your company is trying to be the king of gay and straight porn, pictures and videos, VOD and DVD hard goods, penis pills, and toys, then you're going to need an army to do it properly, if it's even possible to do.

As a webmaster I have always chosen to promote single sites over the "we have everything" type of sponsor. I figure a paysite that's into piss and only piss probably does it really well and I have a more saleable product.

I like sponsors that offer alternative stuff, it makes it easy to try out different things and not have to worry if I only make 1 sale and never get up to the $50 minimum for payout. Plus if I am trying different products, I prefer working with a company with a good reputation that I already know.

I like it when sponsors offer several products or sites, provided they are all RELATED.
