Can you overuse the word "gay" in post?

So now that I'm signing up with sponsors here and slowly filling my site with blog post, I see I need to start knowing how to talk "gay" lol. Like I've said in other post, I've done crossdresser and sissy sites for over a year, but the gay niche is new to me.

I find myself wanting to always describe what I am writing by saying "gay twinks" "gay hunks" "look at these two gay bears going at it" and so on. I suppose it's good for SEO, and I'm good at that.

But do you think it turns off the surfer, who I'm trying to sell to? Does slipping in the word gay every time make me seem like an ignorant mother who does not know what real gay surfers want (which I don't)?

I'm using a lot of RSS feeds to start off and fill it up, but most of the time I want to hand write all my articles. So what do you think, should I go easy on always describing everything as "gay whatever"?

Who are you writing the blog for? If you're writing for gay men then I'd suggest you'd better sound as if you're gay. Now when I'm talking to my buddies, I don't say, "So last night I saw this gay hunk at the baths and ..."

I'd try and speak as naturally as you can. Obviously you're going to want to use the word "gay" to pull in some search engine traffic, but I think a lot of people go overboard.

Thanks Dzinerbear, that's about what I thought. Actually I have a shemale and transvestite site too, and it took me some time to get use to what to say. So I'm use to talking bisexually and so on.

But I'm surprised at how different gay talk is. Browsing other gay blogs sometimes is not a good idea, because they also don't really know what they are saying! In fact I even have a lesbian site too, and talk well as a lesbian, lol.

The gay niche seems to be the last one I have done, and so far the hardest to figure out the lingo. I have gay friends, but they don't talk porn and they themselves say they don't talk like how you read gay porn sites. Uggh, well I'll figure it out. Thanks.

IMHO google knows that your site is "gay" if you use it once or twice in domain or title or metatags or on your site.
Google will also know the "category" of your site when crawling it if you write something like "this guy is really into having his butt and mouth stuffed with huge cocks of really hung men".

They are sitting on vast amounts of data to compare sites with each other.

I agree with Devilish. If you use "gay" in a couple of key spots on your blog, like a headline "Gay Porn Blog Full of Naked Men Pictures" and maybe a "Gay Sex" as a category, there's probably not a big need to load up every post with the word gay.

read blogposts, read marketing texts, read the slogans on paysites and you will get that all it basically takes is that you need to exchange "girl" words with "men" words

was that gay or straight now? I'd say it depends on the title, the domain and the meta keys/description now and the headline for that very paragraph.
The context differs with the healines 'horny girls want to get fucked' or 'horny guys want to get fucked' or 'submissive slave gets it'

Then you need to learn words like twink, bear, chaser, cub ... but that you will get when reading the blogs and such and when you look through sites like manhunt.com or gayfreesites.com

sunfunbill, kudos to you for coming here and talking to the people on this board. It's always good to know your subject matter and talking to people who know what's going on is much better than simply reading other blogs and copying what they do because how do you know if they are even doing it right.

One thing I would like to point out, Gay is not a niche. To have a list of niches and say you do big boobs, panties, crossdressers and gay is kind of like saying "I've been to Paris, Sydney, London and America". You can't really compare the city of London to the country of America because America is comprised of 50 different states, all with their own unique characteristics. There are several gay niches but gay, in and of itself, is not a niche.

Gay niches might include the terms Develish mentioned... Twinks, Bears, Chasers, Cubs. If you get into fetish there's a whole bunch of subgenres like Leather, Rubber, BDSM, Body Shaving, Watersports, Foot Fetish, and many many more.

And with my advice, I'd like to propose a question to the group, because this seems to fit in with what we're talking about here. I was just about to say "never use the term 'gays', as in 'hot gays having sex' or 'Here's a website the gays will love' " but I've noticed the term being used more and more lately, even on gay news programs and gay movies and tv shows. Has it become more acceptable these days? Maybe it's just me but I always prefer to hear "the gay community" or "gay people" rather than "the gays". What do you all think?

I do well with the crossdresser/sissy/transvestite stuff, and I always stick one of those words a time or two in each post. Surfers know your trying to write for google and cut you some slack as long as your not overdoing it.

Indeed from the search terms I already have gotten hits with after only having my gay site out there a month, they use "gay" quite a lot as the first thing they type in looking for "gay bears" "gay blowjobs" and so on.

I just have to learn the right terms and get more at ease with it. Thanks again everyone for the tips.

OMG, I haven't been to cozy frog in years. Is it still around. Now there's a blast from the past. Heh heh. But yeah, that be me. I'm the only DonMike in the industry that I know of for the past eight or so years. :)

I think the real trick is to sound natural, and to think about how the words sound to you if you were the person reading them. Even by replacing "Gay" with "Straight" like Develish had done will show you if it comes out awkward or not. But you sound like you're on the right track. Best of luck.
