Finding amateur models
I shoot both guys and girls and have used agents and ads to find amateur models.Agent experience for guys was not satisfactory. I resorted to only placing ads for guys. These were for solo jerk off sessions. My experience was half the guys were no shows and the other half could not maintain an erection and ejaculate on camera. Most saw it as way to enter porn biz. Nearly all were straight. What has your experience been?

seriously, would you say the ones who kept erection were really 10% or less?

What we do...
Recruiting is difficult...you will find that you do get a lot of no shows but that is part of the process. I find working with straight guys is not a big deal and I would rather shoot a straight guy than a gay guy any day! The key is to have a comfortable setting and to make it "macho". We always have some background music (something like Metallica) and have straight mags on the coffee table (we shoot in our apartrment), 90% of them pic up a mag and flip through it and then we start the paperwork. This creates a setting that straight guys can deal with and then I explain exactly how I do the shoot so they know what to expect. I find that if you present yourself as confident and like you do this every day (which actually we tend to do) that they respond in a very positive way.
With models that can not get an erection don't make a big deal out of it. Give them a magazine and show them where the bathroom is...normally they come out with a hard cock and continue the shoot. If they need some privacy we simply leave the room and have them call us when they have it up. You just need to have patience when working with amateur models...

I use agents to get most of my models. I have found it less problematic that way and they tend to crack the whip cause they know if I am not pleased with their models or the shoot doesnt work, they dont get paid and they want that referral fee.
I have a standard rule for my models. I set them up for solo tests the first time to make sure they can get hard and cum. I had more trouble with "stage fright" when I was shooting straight content than I do now. If they do OK on the solo, I will set them up for more work, hardcore and all.
Some people think I am a bitch, but I explain to them upfront that they are really being hired for the cum shot, everything else is leading up to that, and if they cant cum, I have no product to use so they dont get paid. I find this to be a pretty strong incentive for most of them.
But I also agree that it should be fun and relaxed. I let them have a beer if they want, talk with them and joke around. A lot of my models are used to being treated not very nice in their other occupations so I find they usually appreciate it and I get better stuff out of them (pun fully intended hehehehehe).
I just finished a big shoot in China and I have to disagree about the straight guys, but I guess that depends on the shoot. They can be fine for solos, although I have often had to deal with moodiness, constant explanations about how they are not gay, and occasionally what I call "after cum anger" where they get moody or try to demand more money after the shoot than we agreed on or something. That is one of the times when an agent comes in real handy for me as they can usually diffuse things pretty quickly.

With straight guys i use female photographer. we provide them with mags and or vids. we let them use the washroom to get ready in private. still nearly half are unable to sustain erections. we try to keep stress levels down but it doen't help when we have 4-5 guys scheduled and the next guy has arrived for his shoot while first guy is still struggling to get it up.
