Of course they support it...
Domain names are how they make their money. I doubt we're going to see any registrar say they dont support the new TLD proposals.
On the other hand, adult webmasters dont support the new TLD why?
Could it have something to do with it affecting OUR businesses?
GoDaddy, in supporting the TLD proposal are doing the exact same thing that we're doing by opposing it.. Looking after their own business interests, i honestly wouldnt have expected anything else.
They do however, go on to say that ICANN needs to stop jerking everyone around and come to a decision on this proposal one way or the other and, im in complete agreement with GoDaddy on that.

actually, lee, i don't have any porn sites anymore - i don't support .xxx because it strips people of their freedoms and beccause it charges an unfair amount of money to one group - and it won't work.
i'd feel the same if it affected a group of people i wasn't involved with at all.

Actually I'll disagree slightly or maybe more than slightly. It does strip some freedoms, as the current legislation in the Congress of the US would make it mandatory for adult sites to be listed only under a XXX TLD, or similar type. Assuming XXX doesn't pass ICANN, who knows what the crack pots in Washington will come up with. But the combination of establishing a XXX plus current US legislation does strip away some rights.
Also, while it is voluntary and would be everywhere but the USA there is still the discrimination factor. Some sites that deal in highly descriptive language and discussions would be included in a xxx TLD. Yet those groups are self help groups for rape, incest, addiction problems and not pornography in any sense of the word. By forcing them and medical sites behind the XXX barrier would hinder their ability to help people. That isnt business.

Bull Hockey Steve.. The XXX tld isn't even close to zoning.. it is Segregation at its most devious best. Funny how the politically correct love to use catch phrases to make their evil more appealing. I am sorry, but XXX TLD is not about planning a community at all, it is about a religious agenda that has a bullet marked for all who oppose their standards, either the bullet of segregation or by other means.
.xxx is just a ploy to screw us down the road later.

Sure all the registers probably support it but seriously what the hell were they thinking posting something about being against it. Did they not think it would screw them in the ass? Thousands of domains are now being transferred away from them because of this, lol. I just have to laugh, lol.

My problem, in addition to those already stated, is that
(a) I think that ICM, the registry operator, is intentionally rigging this to rip off the adult industry;
(b) ICM is being completely disingenuous by stating on the one hand that it's voluntary, and a few paragraphs later, stating that "parents want a way of protecting their children." Those statements are fundamentally at odds with one another
(c) ICANN stood by and watched the .info and .eu registries get totally corrupted during landrush and sunrise periods. There's no reason to believe they'll do any better with .xxx.
(d) As Steve points out, zoning has to be consistent to work. Unless (unlikely) there is complete agreement among ALL countries, with equal enforcement, all .xxx will do is force webmasters offshore.

Right but, thats an issue that we have in the United States with legislators NOT ICANN. As you quite rightly point out, if .XXX doesnt pass, what happens then? Perhaps we'll see a move by legislators to require all porn sites to utilize a .org domain, does that then make the .ORG TLD errode our rights away?Quote:

The proposals and, in fact, the .XXX TLD itself dont errode anyones rights away, its other factors that will do that, factors that, at the present time, are only applicable to those of us in the U.S.
So again, ill stand by my original statement, .XXX on its own, doesnt strip anyones rights of freedom away because it is just a proposal.

No such luck. They just deferred it, and ICM, which stands to make a killing, will keep bringing it back until someone either tells them to fuck off or until they get a "yes".
