25% porn tax
About to goto the floor is a new proposed internet "porn tax" this will mean any website that has any adult images on it will be subject to a blanket tax of 25% of its income.
it seems that this is the next thing bush is doing in his War on porn. I quick search of google revieled a site with this text extract.
quote:
Hundreds of billions of dollars are made each year on the "sales" of horrible things, images that most of us want to keep away not only from our children, but from our communities. We want to keep this material from finding its way into the very fabric of our society. Yet, there is an enormous appetite for this stuff - so much so that it’s obvious that the flow from producer to consumer cannot be controlled. Conservatives need to understand this. We have lost this war, but is there something positive that can come from this? Do we just "give up," or is there some way we can curtail the amount of porn being produced?
You bet there is, and here’s the answer: Tax the living daylights out of it! Tax every part of it. Tax the consumers who want to look at it. Tax the "actors" - mostly women, and some men - who are making money being "models" for these porn sites. Tax every network that allows this human sewage to flow through their switches, cables, phone lines - tax any entity that makes it easy for this material to go from camera lens to your living room where little Johnny can see it while you’re out at the grocery store.
its interesting to note that they start of by saying "there is an enormous appetite for this stuff "
well isnt it simple supply and demand? they are saying its filth and no one wants it? yet if no one wanted it , no one would buy it and if no one bought it , then no one would make it.

porn tax? humm what do you think?

I do think if we became tax paying then we would have much more power as a group. But 25% is a bit much don't you think.
First they want to wipe us out now they want us to pay taxes :shifty:
Also I already pay taxes don't you?

Hundreds of billions of dollars
Where do they get the numbers from ?

One thing this article doesn't mention is that the bill's definition of "pornographic web site" is linked directly to 2257. It only covers web sites that need to maintain age verication documents, meaning there's a huge loophole.
If a site only features nudity, simulated sex, or vintage hardcore, it would be exempt from this law. And it would have no impact at all on foreign web sites.
So here we have another idiotic censorship law that places onerous burdens on protected speech without accomplishing what it sets out to accomplish --namely "protecting children" from porn.
If they're really serious about protecting kids from porn, why don't they just set up a damn family-friendly TLD?

Thank god we are a registered website in the netherlands LTD Yay gotta love a LTD ...
Matt..

25% is quite high and i'm sure most webmasters will not agree on it.
-
well we have to keep model release forms on everyone on our website but we also send everyone who is on our website tax statements every 3 months once the site is fully open so we have our tax liability covered. They are independant contract. we have registered our company with the dutch chaimber of commerce so we got diffrent tax i guess. We are Registered DBA wise in cook county in chicago but well we tried to get a chicago business license but they said due to the nature of our business that we got Denied. Fuck em if they dont want to claim taxes on us..

This is just ridiculous shouldn't the religious right worry about murders, rapists, or something actually worthwhile. Porn tax will do nothing but make more people go offshore and the US will lose more tax dollars. The hell if I am paying them a porn tax, they can kiss my ass.

Lets face it in business you pass along the operating expenses to your customers. So then you would have to raise your membership by 25%.
We really should have some kind of union now, to stand up for our right. It’s time!

I am also worried about the proposed "age verification program" sounds like a central government controled data base
how long before we hear cries of " PAPERS PLEAZE "
-
The whole age verification thing makes this look like CDA II. The CDA was overturned last summer by the Supreme Court for being unconstitutional.

I like how they call us "Human Sewage" in there.
Moving back to Canada is starting to look good.
(I'm kidding.. ain't no fucking Ass-licking REpublican gonna force me out of my home.... We're just gonna have to ride this one out.)
-
like i said thats why our merchant account is offshore and our LTd is offshore as well we go by diffrent rules according to dutch chaimber of commerce and we have a diffrent tax (go figure).
mostly all sites are now registered offshore due to visa and mastercard not being good at taking payments for adult websites so you need to get someone eles like verotel or ccbill thats in some other country not in the usa.
and due to the nature of our website since we got not just webcams, movies, pictures, escorts, masseurs, strippers and alot of other things well the us side of visa and mastercard would not approve us because of the website content so well The Netherlands loves it thou... LOL...

As Roy mentioned above, this will just get passed along to the surfer, instead of seeing 'join today for only $29.95' we'll start to see 'join today for $29.95 plus tax' LOL

Lee

They just mentioned this on The Situation with Tucker Carlson. (The smirking bowtie is obviously a closet porn fan.) His panelists were Monica Crowley, a blonde Republican fembot who used to work for Richard Nixon, and Penn Gillette (sp?), of Penn & Teller fame. All three of them thought this was a stupid idea!
I was shocked. I expected Penn to think it was a bullshit idea and sort of expected Carlson to hate it too because he's a libertarian conservative. But Monica Crowley had an even stronger negative opinion than they did. She called it a money grab from a tax-and-spend Democrat and said it was stupid because so much internet porn is free and can't be taxed.
