it was very cute.. something about depp's chocolate factory "sweet opening". I'm sure word got out and they pulled it until it could be re-written.

I loved it. I found myself thinking of Michael Jackson throughout the movie.

people keep telling me they thought of michael jackson, but i don't see it. except for visually, seemed to me depp did exactly what he said - based ww on creepy 50's and 60's children's show hosts, plus added a hint of burton in the mix ;)

Oh no, I didn't get the creepy children's shows host at all. They were loud and crass and condescending.

Willy Wonka is a grown-up obsessed with candy, the stuff of kids. He had a crappy childhood and was expected to grow up far too quickly. When he physically grew up and was again betrayed by adults, he cocooned, and in the end, he became very simple and childlike, incapable of truly understanding why people do mean things.
